Brandon Teixidor's recorded a hat trick in the second half to lead the Bohemia Manor boys soccer team to a 6-0 triumph over host Perryville Thursday afternoon. Mikey Stecher added a pair of goals and Bean Bainbridge opened the scoring. Teixidor's nifty flick set up Bainbridge's goal in the 9th minute. Midway through the first half, Stecher made it 2-0 with a clinical finish from outside of the penalty area, coolly placing a half-volley into the upper right corner of the net.
The Eagles put the game away early in the second half with three goals in a span of 2 minutes, 37 seconds. Eight minutes into the second stanza, Teixidor converted out of a scramble in the goal mouth. He scored again 71 seconds following the first one with an audacious chip over the head of the Panthers' keeper. "We played as a team the second half, it just sparked a flare in me," said Teixidor. "I don't know how to explain. Just the flare blew up." Stecher made it 5-0 with 30:04 remaining and Teixidor completed his hat trick seven minutes later. "He was feeling it today from the very beginning," Bohemia Manor coach Andrew Mitchell said of Teixidor. "I think he had had an off game the last game, a little bit maybe more than that from where he was. But he was spiking it out today, for sure. Same thing with Mike Stecher. Those two were huge and they were huge where they were supposed to be and did what they were supposed to do." The Bohemia Manor barrage started soon after goalie Matt Lynn made a sprawling save on a Perryville penalty kick early in the first half. "That definitely helped us a lot," Teixidor said of the stop. "Because I'm sure the score would've been different if it wasn't for that. We woke up after that, for sure." Lynn’s play and the defense set the stage for the offense's eruption. "Matt Lynn in the back is like a brick wall for us," said Mitchell. "And he's smart with the ball, too. He's a good keeper. he knows when to slow the ball down, when to speed the ball up. Our captain, J.P. Collins, in the back playing center mid for all that time, he's a control point for most of them. The freshman Niko (Mainoilfi), all the flow and energy comes from them up to the forward position." Ahead 2-0 at the break, Bohemia Manor made a slight adjustment which led to a dominant second half showing. "One of the things we talked about at halftime was possession," Mitchell said. "This team is one of the better possession teams I've seen. They possess the ball. Perryville, to me, had the ball up in the air a lot. Once we got the ball on the ground, and could move the ball around, it really opened the game for them chasing us more than defending." Perryville dropped a 4-1 decision to Edgewood Tuesday, October 2. Ethan Crouse scored for the Panthers. Comments are closed.
