The Perryville field hockey team has some holes to fill but has players capable of filling the voids.
The Panthers graduated center midfielder Hannah Wein and its entire defense. Merve Akbay is taking over in the middle and Taylor Poore and Lydia Hill return in the midfield.
Defender Kaitlyn Griffin has been impressive in the preaseason, as have Destiny Parker, and Caitlin McCann. Freshmen Ashley Meekins and Emily Phillips.
"We have a young team but they have experience and they have played together," Perryville coach Janet Candy said.
Lacie Flores and Krystle Schweers are competing for the starting goalie job.
The Panthers return each of their top forwards from last season – Carrie Brighthaupt, Brooke Hornberger, Kyleigh Knell, and Hannah Seibert.
"That will be the strongest part of the team," Candy said.
Freshman Krissy McDuff will chip in.
"I'm pretty confident," Candy said. "We might be young and have some holes to fill but our players are hungry, have a good work ethic, and communicate well."
