The Perryville boys cross country team captured its first state title Saturday afternoon at McDaniel College in Westminster. The Panthers (55) downed second place Southern (Garrett) by 12 points with Bohemia Manor (80), led by a second straight state title from Ty Franks, was third. Adam Thornton paced Perryville with a third place finish. The Panthers placed three runners in the Top 10. Caleb Stevens was sixth and Tyler McCall finished eighth. Shawn Montz, who was resting an injury when Perryville finished two points behind Bo Manor in the region meet, was 11th and Justin Harreld was 29th to round out the scoring. Matt Salvatore was 33rd and Ryan Kiger was 54th. The Eagles' Chandler Brooks (fourth), Jake Trybus (15th), and Luke Salata (16th) each earned a medal. Other state meet highlights: Jordan Dodson was fifth overall to lead the Perryville girls to a fourth place finish in the team standings. Allison Morris (11th) and Aleah Losoya (17th) each also earned a medal. Rising Sun was 16th in the girls 2A race led by a 64th place finish from Autumn Russell. Elkton's Lena Muldoon was 59th and North East's Kaitlyn Henderson was 88th, one spot behind the Tigers' Emma Wheeler. Elkton was 15th in the boys race led by a 65th place finish by Seth Martinez.
