The Perryville football team pulled away for a 44-15 triumph over visiting North East Friday night. The Indians' Josia Larkins bolted up the middle for an 88-yard TD jaunt to cut the Panthers' lead to 22-15 with 6:55 left in the third quarter. On the next play from scrimmage, North East's Garren Davidson picked off a pass and the Indians seemed to have the momentum. But Perryville stopped North East on a 4th and 1 play from the Indians' 48 and it was all Panthers after that. Toby DiMauro scored on a two-yard run and Elijah Johnson ran in for the two-point conversion to up the lead to 30-15 with 1:42 to go in the third quarter. DiMauro also figured heavily in the next Perryville touchdown. After a poor snap on a North East punt, the Indians' punter tried to chase down the ball inside his own five. DiMauro hit the punter hard to prevent him from securing the ball and Tony Smith was able to scoop and score. Another Johnson two-point conversion made it 38-15. Anthony Hernandez scored on a two-yard run with 3:15 left in the game to account for the final score. North East (0-2) gave the Panthers (2-0) fits for the first two-plus quarters. Cody Waddell booted a 35-yard field goal to put the visitors ahead 3-0. Perryville answered with a seven-yard TD scamper by Smith and a Smith two-point conversion. With 4:40 left before halftime, Johnson and TyRell Hollingsworth hooked up for a 28-yard scoring strike to lengthen the lead to 14-3. Undaunted, the Indians scored on a one-yard sneak by the QB Davidson to make the score 14-9 at the break. Perryville extended the lead to 22-9 when Johnson hit Hollingsworth on a fly pattern down the right sideline and Smith caught a two-point pass from Johnson. North East stayed within striking distance thanks to Larkins' long run, but the Panthers fourth-down stop turned the tide. Comments are closed.
