North East baseball team downed Rising Sun in a 5-1 victory on Monday, May 15. The Indians Colt Price threw a complete game and only gave up three hits and only allowed a run. Chase Hollister hit a three run homer in the bottom of the fifth to put the Indians up (5-1). Hollister also had three RBI's. "Defense played well and we got a timely hit from Chase Hollister (which was) a three run, home run, which put us up five to one. That was a big point in the ball game, right there to get a four run lead," said North East head coach Kevin Brown. "Their pitcher threw really well, and had my hitters off balance and their defense played well, " said Rising Sun head coach Steven Barker.
For the Tigers, Andrew Anders was one for two and scored the run. Nate McCullough was one for three and had an RBI. Kenny Dollenger pitched four innings and threw two strikeouts, allowed two runs and zero earned. Reliever, McCullough pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs and struck out two. Fallston 8 North East 3 The Indians fell to visiting Fallston 8-3 in sectional finals on Tuesday, May 16. With five runs surrendered in the second inning, the Indians were unable to overcome the deficit only mustering one run in the bottom of the second. "That was the story of the game really," said North East head coach Kevin Brown. "It was tough to climb out of the hole with defense not recording outs when we had the opportunity to do so." Fallston's Noah Hagentson hit a home run which started the Cougars off in the big inning and Avery Cox brought in two runners with a single. North East's starting pitcher, Eric Steele gave the Indians the loss. Relief pitcher Tyler Robinson took the mound for the start of the third inning. Patrick O'Brien caught a pop up in the outfield and Robinson struck out two to end the top of the third. "If we could of gotten a couple of runs and got back into that game, he (Robinson) gave us the oppurtunity to do that and it just didn't happen for us" said Brown. In the bottom of the third, Patrick O’Brien hit a single to start the Indians off, putting a man on first. The Indian’s Cameron Blankenship hit a single to put men on first and second. Colt Price hit a ground ball to left field and was able to bring home O’Brien to add the second run for the Indians. "(We) just tried to hit the ball hard and hoping it would go into gaps and it can't go in the gap all the time but, just making solid contact is what we tried to do," said Robinson. The Indians tried to make a come back in the bottom of the fifth. Robinson hit a double and Chase Hollister hit a single and Robinson made it to third. Kyle Miller hit a pop up to left field which was caught but Robinson made it home to add a run for North East. The Cougars fired back in the top of the seventh adding three runs to push them ahead of the Indians by five runs to end the game. Comments are closed.
