Host Chesapeake City captured the Major softball district tournament with a 5-4 triumph over Perryville Saturday. Sydnee Ferguson walked and scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Perryville had tied the game with a pair of runs in the top half. Savannah Sheats tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts. Aubrey Heath, Abigail Heath, Abby Moore, and Katherine Jones each singled and scored. Kayla Thompson contributed a single. Perryville 12, Elkton 4 Mara Little hurled a complete game and yielded just one hit. Jordyn Pollitt provided a double and three singles and scored three times. Aubrey Hill and Alexxus Ritter each had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Hanna Downes reached twice on errors and scored both times. Little added a single. Rebecca Helensky, Rosemarie Berger, and Sarah Pender each scored a run. For Elkton, Summer Simpson had the only hit. Perryville 17, Rising Sun 8 Aubrey Hill singled twice and scored three times for the winners. Hanna Downes singled twice and scored. Rebecca Helensky walked three times and scored three runs. Jordyn Pollitt, Mara Little, and Payton Jourdan each scored twice. A.J. Gardner singled and scored twice. Kimmy Boatman and Rosemarie Berger each walked and scored. Taylor Rapposelli and Emily Rapposelli each walked and scored a run. WINNERS BRACKET Chesapeake City 3, Elkton 1 Savannah Sheats fanned four to earn the win. Katherine Jones singled twice and scored a pair of runs. Carli Mitchell walked and scored. Aubrey Heath and Sheats each added a single. For Elkton, Melinda Morgan walked and scored the only run. Reagan Connell and Jaycie Coates each had a hit. SECOND ROUND Elkton 8, Rising Sun 3 Reagan Connell tossed two innings and Summer Simpson pitched the final four to lead Elkton. Elkton took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. Kasey Barrow ignited the uprising with a pop single near the second base bag. Barrow advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third when Jaycie Coates was retired on a comebacker. Carley Smith smacked an RBI single to center. Two batters later, Jennifer Spiker drilled an RBI single to right. After McKenzie Sweeney singled, two runs scored on a wild pitch and overthrow at the plate. Rising Sun sliced the lead in half in the fourth. Leah Wyant reached on an infield single off the pitcher's glove. After a couple of wild pitches, Brittny Wright walked and Katie Main delivered a two-run single to center. It remained 4-2 until the top of the sixth. Catie Eckman roped a double to left and moved to third on an error on the play. Connell's fly ball to left was not caught and Eckman scored. Barrow had an infield hit and Coates walked to load the bases. A run scored on a wild pitch. Smith drove in a run on a groundout and Haley Grant added a sacrifice fly. Rising Sun scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. Wright singled through the hole and eventually scored on Main's groundout. LOSERS BRACKET Perryville 14, Havre de Grace 5 Aubrey Hill and Jordyn Pollitt pitched Perryville to the win. Alexxus Ritter, Mara Little, and Payton Jourdan each had a single to lead the offense. Perryville tallied seven times in the first inning to take command. Luann Blake doubled for Havre de Grace and Emily Gutierrez, Mackenzie Ellis, and Christina Wilson each recorded a single. SECOND ROUND Chesapeake City 6, Perryville 3 Leadoff hitter Aubrey Heath had two hits and scored three runs to lead the victors. Savannah Sheats was the winning pitcher. Perryville scored all three of its runs in the fifth. Aubrey Hill reached on an error with one out. With two outs, Jordyn Pollitt and Alexxus Ritter each recorded singles. FIRST ROUND Elkton 16, Havre de Grace 5 (five innings) Elkton put the game away with 10 runs in the fifth. Reagan Connell reached base in all five plate appearances and scored three runs.
