In a hotly-anticipated playoff rematch, Harford Tech's boys basketball team ousted Elkton for the second straight season. Jordan Bright hit the go-ahead free throw with 19.7 seconds left then blocked a three-point attempt by the Elks' Dah'Mear Triplett at the buzzer to secure a wild 70-69 triumph. Elkton had taken an eight-point lead (62-54) on a Triplett basket with 6:03 remaining. The Cobras countered with a 12-0 uprising to go up by four with 2:50 to go. Jalen Dangerfield scored six points in that span. The Elks responded thanks to three big plays by Marquis Battle. He saved an Elkton possession by throwing the ball off a Tech player as he was sprawling out of bounds. Triplett drained a three-pointer to narrow the gap to 66-65 with 1:17 left. Battle then fed Ryan Thompson for a layup to give the hosts a 67-66 edge. Finally, Battle scored on a putback to pad the Elks lead to 69-66 with 57 seconds to play. West Nottingham Academy's boys basketball team won the Mid-Atlantic Independent League title with an 82-74 victory over Tri-State Christian Academy in a captivating contest Saturday night at North East High.
