Bohemia Manor's Zach Laird demonstrated the power of positive thinking.
Laird relied on some personal affirmation while traversing the (understatement alert) hilly terrain at bucolic Hereford High School Saturday afternoon, "I'm winning this," he repeated to himself. Laird was correct. The Eagles' junior captured the individual Class 1A state crown while leading the Eagles to the team title. Faced with adversity, the Perryville volleyball team turned to a trio of seniors who had been in similar situations.
Coach Matt Borrelli credited his captains with steadying the ship after the Panthers dropped the first game against Bohemia Manor Wednesday and then the leaders helped Perryville withstand a furious Eagles rally in game four. The result was a 17-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-22 Panthers victory in a region semifinal game in Chesapeake City. The objective was straightforward.
Win and you're in. Bohemia Manor won. Perryville is done. The Eagles (6-4) clinched their sixth straight playoff appearance with a 28-0 romp over the host Panthers Friday night. Perryville (6-4) missed out on a postseason bid after losing its final three games. Zach Laird won the boys 1A East Region race to help the Bohemia Manor boys capture a 10th straight region crown last Thursday afternoon at Fair Hill.
The Bohemia Manor boys cross country team captured the team title at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference meet which was held Wednesday, October 25 in Fair Hill.
The Eagles (34) defeated Fallston (92), C. Milton Wright (94), Bel Air (94), Harford Tech (132), Elkton (174), North Harford (177), Patterson Mill (180), Perryville (257), Rising Sun (277), Aberdeen (282), Edgewood (303), and North East (334). North East's Yailynn Ramirez and Bohemia Manor's Zach Laird each captured an individual championship while the Eagles swept the team titles at the county cross country meet held Tuesday, October 17, at Calvert Regional Park.

The Tigers triumphed 25-15, 25-14, 25-23. It was a big day for Cecil County teams at the Maryland Track and Trail cross country meet at Fair Hill Saturday.
