William Lusby Whiteman died December 10, 2015. He was 73. He was born on September 12, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pa., son of Willard Lusby Whiteman and Mary Alice (Buskirk) Whiteman. He grew up on a farm in Cecilton and was a lifelong resident of Cecil County. Mr. Whiteman was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and was a member of the National Guard. He worked as an assembly worker at General Motors; surveying with Mike McAlister in Elkton; and as a cook at the Shafer’s Canal House. Mr. Whiteman was a wonderful singer and an accomplished guitarist. Music was his love and passion. He was a band member of the “Country Cousins.” They performed all over the Philadelphia Metro area. Hank Williams was his all-time favorite country music artist. Margaret Marie Drew of Bradenton, Fla., died Friday, December 11, 2015 at Abbey Manor Assisted Living, Elkton. She was 95.
Born in East Orange, N.J., on September 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Martin Thompson and Ann (King) Thompson. Mrs. Drew retired from N.J. Bell Telephone, starting out as an operator and working her way up to management. While working as an operator for the phone company, she used to connect Frank Sinatra to his mother in Hoboken, N.J. John Howard Guy of North East died at home Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015. He was 84.
Born in North East, on July 10, 1931, he was the son of the late John and Edna May (Hammond) Guy. Mr. Guy graduated from North East High School. He enjoyed his animals, hunting, fishing, going to auctions and being with his family and friends. Mr. Guy was always smiling, joking and laughing. Betty Jane “Peggy” Lucas of Colora, died Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace. She was 82. Born February 16, 1933 in Marion, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Poston Johnson. Mrs. Lucas was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher at Calvary Baptist Church. She was a great cook and was known for her famous biscuits and gravy. She raised three children and numerous grandchildren, and was an outstanding wife and mother. Gwendolyn Joyce Thompson died at home Saturday, December 5, 2015. She was 45. She was born in Havre de Grace on February 26, 1970, daughter of Albert and Brenda Schuman of Rising Sun and David L. Thompson of Perryville. She grew up in Rising Sun and graduated from Rising Sun High School. She was a nurse for 27 years and was employed at the Dawn Career Institute, Wilmington, Del. She was loved by many family, friends, and coworkers. Ms. Thompson especially enjoyed gardening, preserving her harvest, crafts, cooking, and spending time at their beach home. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Rising Sun and also the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lewes, Del. Shawn Christopher Armour of Rising Sun died Thursday, December 3, 2015. He was 41. Born January 25, 1974 in Havre de Grace, he was the son of James Thomas Armour and Linda Carol (Freligh) Armour. Mr. Armour was a horse trainer and driver in the harness horse racing Industry which he learned from his grandfather through the years. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was devoted to his family and friends and will be missed dearly by all. Claire M. Tyson of Colora died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Ware Presbyterian Village in Oxford, Pa. She was 88. She was born in Yeadon, Pa., on November 30, 1927, to the late Charles K.H. and Anna M. McClintock McWilliams. When she was three years old, her family moved to Bryn Coed Farm, in Chester County, Pa. The farm was owned by Justice Owen J. Roberts, a member of the U.S. Supreme Court. In March of 1936, she moved to Ann’s Acres owned by Miss Anna M. Carrere, in 1944, to Long Branch Farm, on Trappe Church Road in Darlington, and in 1948, to Rowlandsville, Cecil County, where she lived until her marriage to John Edwin Tyson of Rising Sun in May of 1952. Mrs. Tyson graduated from Bel Air High School in 1944. She then attended Strayers College in Baltimore, taking typing and shorthand, and later earned an Administrative Secretarial degree from Goldey Beacom School of Business in June, 1962. James E. Chamberlain of North East, formerly of Oxford, Pa., died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 60. Born in West Grove, Pa.; he was the son of Joseph G. Chamberlain of Oxford and the late Gladys M. Kane Chamberlain. Mr. Chamberlain was retired. He had been employed as a general contractor with his father, Joseph G. Chamberlain, Inc. He enjoyed antiquing, restoring old homes, vacationing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed enjoyed family gatherings especially his Christmas parties. Louise Blake White of Wilmington, Del. died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Wilmington Hospital. She was 95. Born in North East, Maryland on September 26, 1920, she was the daughter of T. Kennard and Helen Moffitt Blake. Mrs. White grew up in North East and graduated as Valedictorian of her class from North East High School. She continued her education at Beacom College and worked before her marriage at Hercules Corporation. She was married in 1944 to Austin E. White, and became a homemaker until her husband died in 1960. At that point in her life, she went to work at Mount Pleasant Junior High School as an Administrative Assistant to the Vice Principal. She spent 22 years in the Mount Pleasant School District until her retirement in the early 1980s. Tracy Lynn Norris of Port Deposit died at home Tuesday, December 1, 2015. She was 45.
Born on Havre de Grace on February 3, 1970, daughter of the late James A. Reeves Sr. and the late Stella Jean (Ray) Reeves. Mrs. Norris was a homemaker who enjoyed being home with her family. She also enjoyed spending time at their cabin in North Carolina. She had formerly worked as an agent for Mason Dixon Realty. |
