Peggy Lee Simmers, 82, of Rising Sun, MD went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 23, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lebanon, VA in November 1934, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Eula Monk Akers. Peggy graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1952. She worked at Cecil National Bank in Port Deposit, MD, until the birth of her children. Peggy had a heart for family. She often said, "There is nothing like being a grandmother!" Her love united all and created a place for each person to call home at Carron Hill Farm. She spoiled her family rotten with her famous rolls and sticky buns. Front and center at sporting events and concerts, Peggy was a champion of each family member's success. Everyone knew they were loved by Peggy. Over the years, her service extended outward as Swimnastics Instructor at the YMCA, Helping Hands Decorator for Sandy Cove, and a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher at Pleasant View Baptist Church and Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Lucinda Mae Mease of North East died Thursday, September 21, 2017 in the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center. She was 68.
Born in Baltimore on October 20, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Irene (Deyarmin) Peightal. Clifford Bernard Stearns, age 66, of Conowingo, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Born on October 13, 1950 in Concord, NH, he was the son of Helen Hood Stearns and the late Bernard Clifford Stearns. Cliff was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He married his wife, Hoppy, in 1979 and that same year they purchased their family farm, Whizard’s Lair Farm. Cliff worked many jobs in his lifetime, including: training Standardbred Racehorses, driving the Budweiser Clydesdales, moving houses, dredging, and installing Geotextile tubes. He also had a Pilot’s license. Cliff enjoyed foxhunting but, his favorite time of the year was always deer season. Michael “Mickey” Blankenship, 68 of Bay View, MD, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Grundy, VA, on Jan. 21, 1949. Prior to retirement, Mickey was a home builder. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed poker. Most of all he loved his family and the time they spent together. James Howard Ewing, 89 of North East, MD, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 in the Elkton Transitional Care Center, Elkton, MD. A lifelong resident of North East, he was born on April 18, 1928, the son of the late Daniel L. and Mammie (Dennison) Ewing. Jimmy retired from C. Paul Nickle, Inc. after 32 years of service as an electrician. He also had worked as a carpenter for Paul Crouch and Lewis Alexander. After retirement, he served 23 years as a crossing guard in the town of North East. He was the oldest living member of the North East Fire Company and a member of the Harford-Cecil Firemen’s Association Hall of Fame. Jane Lucia Woolman, 52 of North East, MD, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at home. She was born in Elkton, MD, on May 19, 1965. Prior to her retirement, Jane worked as a bartender at the VFW and the Beachcomber. She enjoyed riding her bike, visiting with friends, cooking for her family and lounging with her cat, Tiger Pooh. Survived by two daughters: Britney D Permenter and Heather Rodriguez both of North East, MD; mother: Joan Marie (Lowe) Woolman of Elkton, MD; sisters: Susan Hazelwood of Elkton, MD and Teresa Sanders of North East, MD: and brothers: John Woolman and her twin, Joe Woolman both of North East, MD and William Woolman of Elkton, MD. John Elit Evans, 90 of Elkton, MD, died Saturday, September 9, 2017 in the Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD.
Born in Rosedale, MD, on November 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Howard C. and Marie Pearl (Burns) Evans. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Doris Ann Evans. He was a steelworker at Bethlehem Steel before retiring. He attended Dogwood Baptist Church in Elk Mills, MD. Gregory Allen Neal, 43, of Elkton, MD passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 unexpectedly in his home of Elkton, MD.
He was born in Lancaster, PA, on May 16, 1974. He was a lead operator for eight years for Bilcare Research, Delaware City. Greg enjoyed antique John Deere equipment, mountain biking, gaming, music, grilling, horses, dirtbikes and his dog, Falon. George Wesley Caldwell, 50 of North East, MD, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in Elkton, MD, on April 9, 1967. George enjoyed motorcycles and gardening. Most of all he loved spending time with his children, family and friends. He is survived by his partner: Blenda Holbrook; three sons: Edward Woods, Steven Ira Holbrook and Michael James Holbrook; his mother: Jennie (McKinney) Caldwell; and one sister: Kelli Eastburn. Alan Michael “Bear” Robbins, age 65 of North East, MD departed this life on Aug. 31, 2017 following a sudden illness.
A devoted family man, Alan is survived by his wife of 43 years, two sons, a daughter and son-in-law, and six grandchildren. Alan was a true patriot, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfathers. He served in the United States Navy from 1972-1984. LT. Robbins was particularly proud of his service aboard the USS Jesse L. Brown, FF 1089 from 1977-1979. Other commands include NAV FAC, Adak, Alaska, NAV CAMS MED, Naples, Italy and more. Following his naval career, Alan continued to serve our country as a Department of Defense employee, during which time he distinguished himself by earning, among others, the Knowlton Award, the Knight of the Honorable Order of St. Michael, and the Crystal Eagle Award for 40 years of government civilian service. |
