Joan V. Nadeau, 79 of Wellington, FL and North East, MD, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 29, 2016. Born in Hamlin, ME, on October 12, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Patrick D. and Marie (Violette) Parent. Mrs. Nadeau earned her Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia University and her Masters from the University of Delaware, both in English Education. She loved teaching. During her career she taught English as a Second Language at the Writing Center at the University of DE and at the Adult Education Center in Greenwich, CT. Mrs. Nadeau was an active member of the North East Women’s Civic League. She loved reading, especially technical books and novels and was fluent in French. A loving, caring person, she enjoyed doting on her family and dear friends. Henry Ferdinand Michel, 95 yrs, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away August 25, 2016 in the V.A. Maryland Health Care System of Perry Point, MD. Born May 25, 1921 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Henry Frederick and Theresa A. Downey Michel.
Henry was formerly employed as a Press Foreman by the Baltimore Sun Newspaper of Baltimore, MD. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WW II. Earla R. Dollenger, age 88, of Rising Sun, MD passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2016.
Born September 26, 1927 in Lewisville, PA, Earla was the daughter of the late Jahue and Lou Vicy (Webb) Rakes. Earla drove a school bus in her early years and worked at the Rising Sun sewing factory where she met her loving husband, Irvin. She retired as a nurse’s aide after a 20 year career with Calvert Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of Grace Bible Church. She was a great seamstress and could sew anything. She was known as the “Bear Lady” and was a “true Proverbs 31” woman. Her most cherished moments where those spent with her loving family. Franklin Leroy Walter, Sr., 90 of North East, MD, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD. Born in Bloomsburg, PA, on April 6, 1926, he was the son of the late John Edward and Margaret Ann (Dimmick) Walter. He served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement, Frank worked as a technician for the Chrysler Corp. Brenda Mae Lankford, age 63 of Perryville, MD, passed away on August 23, 2016 surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was the daughter of Roland and Gloria Gallagher. Brenda retired from Perry Point VA Medical Center in 2000, where she worked as a nurse. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a grandmother who adored her babies. She was loved by many. Fred L. Sexton, Sr., of North East, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side. He was 77. Born in Princeton, WV, on October 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Lester F. and Etta M. Weidner Sexton. Prior to his retirement, Fred worked for James C. Wagman, Aberdeen, as a brick and block layer. A real people person, he enjoyed visiting the Elkton McDonald’s and Walmart, and talking with everyone. Wilma J. Hutchison, 82 of North East, MD, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Born in Welch, WV, on September 16, 1933, she was the daughter of Arthur and Savannah Green. Wilma is survived by her sons: Darrell E. McClanahan of North East, MD and Brian K. McClanahan of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Bobby & Kevin Tankersley, Allen & Eric McClanahan, Jamie Oals, Brian & Adrianna McClanahan; as well as may great grandchildren and her special friend: Lois Blevins. Sarah Elizabeth Stubbs, nee Raub, was born on August 29, 1924 and died on June 11, 2016 after a long, full and active life. She was born in Lancaster to Henri E. and Helen Raub, second of eight children. She grew up in Quarryville and on the family farm in New Providence. She was always full of fun and adventure and between teaching young children at The Cattell School in Lancaster and attending nursing school she traveled to Yellowstone National Park one summer where she met her future husband Donald Stubbs from San Diego, CA. They married in Chicago, IL in 1947 while Don finished medical school at Northwestern University and Sarah (known as Sit or Sally to family and friends) gave birth to their children Sara Lee and Stewart. After Don completed his internship they returned to Sarah's home and family where he served his medical residency at Lancaster General Hospital and then established his first medical practice in Windsor, York County, and then in New Providence while Sarah was homemaker and mother and active in local organizations and charities. Helen Baylis, of North East, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. She was 88.
She was the wife of the late Raymond B. Baylis, Jr. Born in West Grove, she was the daughter of the late William L., Sr. and Marie C. Campbell Ewell. Ebenetta Jane Thompson, 71 yrs, of Port Deposit, MD, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at her residence. Born September 10, 1944 in Elkton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Eben and Isabella Atkinson Rolfe.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, George Anthony Thompson of Port Deposit, MD; son, Mark Anthony Thompson, Sr.; daughters, Lynnette Carol Settlemyre and Aleta Kay Eldreth; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Albert Rolfe, sisters, Frances Clark, Judy Oikemus and Ellen Johnson. |
