Helen Hotra Eder, 86, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away at home Sunday, May 28, 2017. Born in Chesapeake City on August 11, 1930, she was the last surviving child of the late Alexander and Tekla Podwirna Hotra. Mrs. Eder retired from Mopar Division of Chrysler Corporation, Newark, DE where she had been a key punch operator and belonged to UAW 1212. She was a lifelong active member of St. Basil Ukrainian Catholic Church, Chesapeake City, MD and enjoyed singing in the church choir. An avid reader, she enjoyed traveling and going crabbing. Mona Dawn Grace, 61, of Conowingo went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2017 at home surrounded by loved ones following a battle with breast cancer. She was born June 3, 1955 in Maryland to the late Robert and Leona Vickers. She is the wife of Joseph Grace, Sr., whom she shared 46 years of marriage.
Dawn was the best waitress in Cecil County for 40 years. She belonged to Porters Grove Baptist Church. Dawn enjoyed being with her family, laying in the sun, collecting angels, cruising, yard sales, and dressing up for the holidays. She will be remembered for her kind heart, strength, faith in God, awesome macaroni salad, and her love for family. Bernard C. Hypes, Jr., 69 of Elkton, MD, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at home.
Born in Bluefield, VA, on May 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Bernard C., Sr. and Helen Gladys (Whitt) Hypes. He was the husband of the late Erline J. (Palmer) Hypes who passed in 2003. After 30 years of service as an Assembler, Bernard retired from GM, Wilmington, DE. Patricia Walbeck Murphy, 52 of North East, MD, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017.
Born in Elkton, MD, on December 23, 1964, she was the daughter of Carl Walbeck of North East and the late Edith Rose (Lynch) Walbeck. Patty was a graduate of North East High School and Virginia Tech. She was a member of St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church. Helen M. Carroll, age 90, of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017. Born in Elkton on September 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Laura Deibert Carroll. Ms. Carroll retired as vice president of Peoples Bank of Elkton, after more than 50 years of service. She enjoyed working in her yard, especially flower gardening. Charleen Grace Banks of Colora, MD, 74 died February 27, 2017 at home. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Gerturde Zoltowski and Aloysius Dietz.
She grew up in Starke, Florida and graduated from Bradford County High School. She was a member of Good Shephard Catholic Church in Perryville, MD and her faith was an important part of her life. She worked for the Forwood Bus Company for 25 years. She worked and lived on a racehorse breeding farm- Forwood Stables in Boothwyn, PA from 1970 to 1985. She worked and lived on a racehorse training farm in Colora, MD from 1985 to 2017. She was a longstanding member of the US Trotters Association. She had a love of horses and the sport of harness racing. She shared her knowledge and love of horses, dogs and the value of hard work with a group of young people who considered her a great mentor and a second mother. Charle Denise Lee, age 66 died on 18 May 2017.
She was a native of Chambersburg, PA, graduated from Shippensburg College in 1972 and later moved to Cecil County. Her career choice as a Human Resources Specialist in the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD culminated in retirement in 2005. Avis Cochrane Brown passed away peacefully on Friday the 19th of May at the age of 92. Throughout her life, Avis was an avid reader and student. This passion helped her win a scholarship to Boston University where she met her husband, Carleton. The two were married in June of 1945 and wasted no time beginning their careers—he in social work and she in teaching English. After the birth of their two children, David and Nancy, Avis pursued a Master’s degree in education from John’s Hopkins University where she researched teaching for the developmentally disabled. When Avis returned to teaching she used her degree to focus on special education. She also developed a phonetics based reading program for students learning later in life. Jo Ann Howell, 59 of Aberdeen, MD, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017 at home.
Born in MD, on September 23, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Verna (Westmoreland) McMullen. She was the wife of the late Roger W. Howell who passed February 5, 2007. Jo Ann loved her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Robert Joseph Gregor, 78 of Rising Sun, MD, died Friday, May 19, 2017 in his daughter’s home. Born in Wilmington, DE, on September 14, 1938, he was the son of the Robert F. and Frances E. (Lennon) Gregor. He served in the Navy aboard “The Wasp”. Bob, a member of the Defiance Club, Wilmington, DE, enjoyed golf, classic movies, old cars, cooking and most of all spending time with his family. Before his retirement he was a Draftsman, employed by the DuPont Company. |
