Elaine Gibney of Colora, MD, age 69, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018. She was born August 11, 1948 in West Grove, PA to the late Henry J. “Bud” Montgomery and Bernice (Simmons) Montgomery. Elaine was raised on a farm and remained a farm girl at heart her entire life. She was a 1966 graduate of Rising Sun High School in Rising Sun, MD. Elaine was a long time bus driver in the community as well as being an active member of the Rose Bank United Methodist Church in Rising Sun, MD. She also enjoyed crocheting and making crafts. Elaine loved to sing at any opportunity, but especially enjoyed singing at church both as a congregation member and as part of the choir. Hazel Irene Howery, 89, of Oxford, formerly of Cecil County, MD, passed away on Thursday, January 25 2018, at Jennersville Regional Hospital, West Grove. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Howery and was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Rother. Born in Farmington, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Emma Sherron Eklund. Hazel was a past member of Bethel Methodist Church, North East, MD. She was employed as a school bus driver for Jacob Tome School, North East, MD. Hazel enjoyed antique collecting and riding on motorcycles. Rev. John C. “Leslie” Osborne, 77 of Elkton, MD, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at home. Born in McDowell County, WV, on April 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Whitten and Louisa (Day) Osborne. Rev. Osborne retired after more than 40 years of service to the Church of God. He is survived by his wife: Patsy R. Osborne; son: Gregory Scott Osborne; and one sister: Audrey Eldreth of Elkton, MD. Josephine M. Yanchulis, 97 of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 in the Elkton Transitional Care Center, Elkton, MD.
Born in Shenandoah, PA, on March 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Gurska) Zynel. She was the wife of the late William A. Yanchulis. Mrs. Yanchulis is survived by a daughter-on-law: Patricia A. Yanchulis of Elkton, MD; one sister: Mary Savitsky of Westfield, IN; three grandchildren: Ann Marie Griffith of Chesapeake City, MD, Elaine Margaret Underwood of Charlestown, MD, William Joseph Yanchulis, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. George Richard Anderson Jr., 85 of North East, MD, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 in Union Hospital, Elkton, MD.
Born in Trenton, NJ, on December 17, 1932, he was the son of the late George Richard Anderson, Sr. and Lillian (Dawson) Anderson. Mr. Anderson served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner of A & W Coachworks. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Wellwood Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore. In his spare time he enjoyed boating. Edna Rae Fleming Parnell, 92 of North East, MD. Born in Frisco City, AL, on April 26, 1925, passed away January 27, 2018.
She was the daughter of the late Oscar Leroy Fleming and Frankie Lee Fleming. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband: Henry Clay Ikner; granddaughter: Tina Louise Ikner; 3 sisters: Mary Dannley, Marjorie Brown and Aucilla Harrison; and nephew: Donnie Bowen. Edna was a past member of Monroeville Baptist Church. She worked for over 17 years at Vanity Fair in Monroeville, AL, R-M-R in Elkton, MD, Lass Garment Factory, North East, MD and at Cecil County Dragway, Rising Sun, MD. Adele Christine Bell, 86 of Duluth, MN, formerly of North East, MD, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 2, 1931, she was the daughter of the late August and Berta Fabi. She attended Bay Ridge High School. Mrs. Bell retired from MD State Highways where she worked as a toll collector. She had also worked as a telephone operator. Most of all she was a loving homemaker, who enjoyed caring for her family, was a gourmet cook and an avid gardener. She was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, Newark, DE. Beverly Black Lewis, 71 of New Castle, DE, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in New Castle, DE. Beverly is survived by her husband of 47 years: Glenn; son: Christopher (Heather); daughter: Kimberly (Reginald); and eight grandchildren: Christopher Jr., Devon, Anthony, Brianna, Gabrielle, Reginald Jr., Alycia, Malachi; and her sister: Yulonda (Leon). She was born to the late Luther and Novella Black of Little Rock, AR and graduated from Foster High School of Lewisville, AR in 1964. She attended Philander Smith College where she pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority in 1965. She graduated from University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Nursing. Beverly taught nursing at University of Central Arkansas for four years. She had the opportunity to work with the team that opened the first Coronary Care Unit at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. She continued her nursing career serving at five VA Medical Facilities, retiring after 30 years of service. Mary Lee Younce, age 82, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD.
She was born on March 24, 1935 in Grassy Creek, NC to the late Gaither and Maggie Johnson Powers. A talented seamstress, Mary worked for several local clothing manufacturers over years. She also worked at the Rising Sun Cleaners for many years as well. Gordon Edward McGowan, 83 of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018.
Born in Sparrows Point, MD, on December 7, 1934, he was the son of the late William Edward and Helen Rose (Simon) McGowan. He served his country proudly in the US Navy. Prior to his retirement, Mr. McGowan worked in sales for Parkway Machine Corp., Timonium, MD. He enjoyed Ravens football, collecting lighthouse and cooking, especially for holiday and Sunday meals. |
