Diane P. Sweetman, 74 of Elkton, MD, died Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Union Hospital, Elkton, MD.
A lifelong resident of Elkton, she was born on November 20, 1941, the daughter of the late William and Vieno (Westerinen) Kennedy. She was the wife of the late Herbert D. Sweetman who died on Aug. 3, 2000. Diane enjoyed playing cards on Thursday night, swimming in the pool, watching tv and reading books. Daniel Lee Wilson, 69 yrs, of Rising Sun, MD, died Sunday, November 22, 2015 in Christiana Hospital of Newark, DE. Born November 6, 1946 in Upland, PA, he was the son of the late William E. and Mary Louise Keppel Wilson.
Daniel was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene. Daniel was employed as a welder by International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local No. 13. He was a graduate of Shenandoah Valley Academy of New Market, VA. Daniel played ASA fast-pitch softball, enjoyed being in his garden, spending time with his grandson, Colin, and giving him rides on his golf cart. He was a huge Steeler and Pirates fan, he enjoyed fishing and crabbing, and taking vacations in Chincoteague, VA, with his wife, Dona. Daniel was a very hard worker, and a very kind and generous individual. Timothy Thomas Smith of North East died at home Thursday, November 19, 2015. He was 58.
He was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on September 21, 1957. Mr. Smith retired from Chrysler, enjoyed fantasy football, the Yankees and the Chrysler reunions. Dr. Robert Larry Jones of Rising Sun died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, in Newark, Del. He was 66.
He is survived by his wife, Terri; son, Christopher; daughter, Kimberly McCaw; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Edward L. Collins, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 86 Pine St., Oxford, Pa., with visitation from 1-2 p.m. Margaret Juanita Snyder, 54 of Elkton, MD, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at home.
A lifelong resident of Cecil County, she was born in Elkton, on September 23, 1961. Margaret worked as a manager at McDonald’s in Elkton and at the Elkton Walmart. Samuel Paul Pennington of Mancos, Colorado formally of Elkton Maryland passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Southwest Memorial Hospital, Cortez, Colorado at the age of 37. Sam was born September 19, 1978 in Wilmington, DE. the son of Paul Michael and Paula Noreen (Bowden) Pennington. Sam attended St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington and then went on to study at Pitt Culinary College and the University of Delaware. Sam was an outdoor enthusiast. He loved free time spent riding mountain and dirt bikes, climbing rocks, hiking and shooting sports. He liked living on the edge and skydiving as he had the opportunity. Henry Ray, 77 of North East, MD, passed away suddenly Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in Honaker, VA, on October 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Howard and Ruby (Dye) Ray. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane Ray who passed on June 6, 2015. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Ray was President, Owner and Operator of Ray Logging Company, North East, MD for 46 years. Lisa Morgan Wiegand, of Rising Sun died at home Sunday, November 15, 2015. She was 48. She was born March 27, 1967 to Arthur Breder and Helen Gehringer. Mrs. Wiegand was well known and admired by many throughout her community. She graduated from University of Delaware in 1989 with her BA, and then went on to graduate from West Chester University where she received her M.Ed in 1992. Mrs. Wiegand started her career in 1993 as a guidance counselor at Rising Sun Middle School where she retired in 2006 due to her illness. She was an avid Eagles and Flyers fan. She was kind and loving and showed tremendous courage and fought through her illness with dignity, character, and concern for others over herself. Janice May Shiel of Elkton died at home Friday, November 13, 2015. She was 53.
Born in New Castle, Del., on December 21, 1961, she was the daughter of Laura (Miles) Anton of Earleville, and the late William Anton. She was a member of New Life Faith Center. Mrs. Shiel enjoyed shopping for clothes, puzzles, planting flowers, playing on the phone and crocheting. Most of all she loved her family and enjoyed the time spent with them. She loved being a grandmother and watching her grandchildren grow. Joseph Gans Flatau Jr. of Elkton died at home Saturday, November 7, 2015. He was 59.
Born May 11, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph Gans Flatau Sr. and the late Helen E. Flatau (nee Fretick). He attended Upper Darby High School, where he met his future wife, Joyce Hurley. Mr. Flatau then attended the University of Miami where he became a fervent 'Canes fan, and Widener University, earning a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1979. He had a successful career in industrial fiber optics, founding Harbenaux, Inc. and earning a patent for his invention of xJuMPER. Mr. Flatau was a Catholic. He was known for his kindness and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His hobbies included music of all kinds, boating, tinkering in the garage, radio controlled vehicles, science facts, and science fiction. |
