Michael Warren "Mike" Carter of Rising Sun died at home Friday, July 27, 2018. He was 66. Born May 18, 1952 in Milford, Del., he was the son of Helen May (King) Carter and the late Warren Howard Carter. Mr. Carter was a handyman and could fix anything. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life, most recently as a lab technician for DuPont. He loved spending time in nature whether he was fishing, hiking or camping. He also enjoyed visiting the ocean when he could. A dog-lover, Mr. Carter always had a trusty four-legged companion to share in his joys throughout life. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Margaret Theresa Schomo, 84 of Elkton, MD, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Mahr) McCrory. She was the wife of the late Ronald R. Schomo who passed March 19, 2008. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by three daughters: Maureen Eisner of Havre De Grace, MD, Lynn M. Cooper of Forest Hill, MD and Janet C. Schomo; one son: Ronald J. Schomo of Wilmington, NC; one brother: Harry T. McCrory of Catonsville, MD; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Virona Gertrude Palmer of Rising Sun died Sunday, July 22, 2018. She was 88.
Born November 19, 1929 in Red Star, W.Va, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Rose (Craft) Callahan. Mrs. Palmer was a lifelong member of Conowingo Baptist Church. Family and faith were what she held most near and dear to her heart. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family and close friends often joked that she was better than June Cleaver. Paul Lindberg Phipps of Elkton died Thursday, July 26, 2018 in the Seasons Hospice Unit of Franklin Square, Baltimore. He was 91.
Born in Wrightsdale, Pa., on July 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Verner Paul and Pansey Adelade (Johnston) Phipps. Mr. Phipps served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a Fireman First Class. He retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he worked as a mechanic and maintenance chief. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing and bluegrass music. Ronald Curtis “Hillbilly” McMillan, Sr. of Elkton died at home Friday, July 27, 2018. He was 53.
Born in Elkton, on June 11, 1965, he was the son of Reggie Franklin McMillan and Blanche Hilda (Lylla) McMillan. Mr. McMillan had a love and passion for his children and grandchildren. Roger James Stewart, of Rising Sun, died July 24, 2018 at Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 84.
He was the son of the late Mary Duvall Ruth and Roscoe Stewart and step-son of the late Harry B. Ruth. Roger was employed at Wiley Manufacturing in Port Deposit for 32 years as a welder. He then worked at Cameron's Supply of Oxford, Pa. He was a contractor at Aberdeen Proving Ground and then retired from Sears at Prices Corner, Del. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Brown Stewart; son, Dennis Stewart, of Abingdon; daughter, Debra Stewart, of Baltimore and sister, Marlene Hamilton, of Cochranville, Pa. Mary Alice Smith, 83 of North East, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 20, 2018.
The last of 5 children, Mary was born in Jackson City, FL, on August 31, 1934, the daughter of the late William Harrison Bryant and the late Cora Mack. She was the wife of the late Samuel Lee Smith who passed in 2008. Mary was educated thru the Jackson County, FL School System. She worked as a caregiver and nanny for many years. Mary spent her free time making crafts and ceramics. She enjoyed horse racing and going to see drama plays at Cecil College. In her younger years, she liked basketball. Left to cherish her memory are her son: Curtis L. Bryant of North East, MD; two grandsons: Jawan M. Bryant of North East, MD, Anthony Bryant of Perryville, MD; and a host of extended family members. Clarence Roscoe “Rusty” Combs, 74 of North East, MD, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.
Born in Meade, WV, on August 12, 1943, he was the son of the late Oscar William and Ella (Coalson) Combs. He was a partner in Cecil Construction, Elkton, MD and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Rusty is survived by his loving wife: Rosie E. (Perkins) Combs; daughter: Melissa Combs Nagy of North East, MD; 2 sons: Ronald Combs (Amy) of Freeland, MD and Donald Combs of Baltimore, MD; his siblings: Doris Blevins and Duane Combs both of North East, MD, Eula McCoy of Rising Sun, MD; 5 grandchildren: Kristi Given (Wayne), Hannah Nagy, Charles Combs, Riley Combs, Olivia Combs; and a great grandchild: Carmen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Eula, Jack, Earl, and John L. Jacqueline Yvonne Liberto, also lovingly known as” Pudgy” , passed away on July 20th, 2018 at the age of 59 after battling with lung cancer. Jacqueline was a dedicated registered nurse who worked in various understaffed hospitals on the east coast during her 20 year career. She loved helping others, playing cards, shooting pool, but above all else spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter Mechelle, her three sons Mitchell, Joseph and Dallas, and by her grandchildren Jo-Jo, Isabella, and Mason. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends as she touched many lives Annabelle McGinnis, 92 of Elkton, MD, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 in Elkton, MD.
Born in McKees Rock, PA, on November 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Anthony and Hazel (Bird) McCarthy. She was a proud military wife who enjoyed yard work and the casinos. |
