Myrtle Emma McNeal of Newark, Del., died Sunday, May 25, 2014. She was 92.
Born in Wilmington, Del., on June 14, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and the late Nora (Mitchell) Custin. During World War II, she worked at Blanka Aircraft, New Castle, Del. She was a true ‘Rosie the Riveter.’ James Charles Pyle of Nottingham, Pa., died at his home May 23, 2014. He was 68. Born in West Grove, Pa., on March 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Clyde and Mary Hendrickson Pyle. He was a 1965 graduate of Oxford Area High School and was a member of the UAW, working at Chrysler for 36 years until his retirement in 2001. He then pursued his new career as a gentleman farmer on the family farm. He enjoyed woodworking and telling stories but his greatest joy was his grandchildren. Martha E. "Betsy" Schroeder, died at Heartland Hospice Home in Wilmington, Del. Sunday, May 18. She was 65. She was born March 5, 1949 in Oak Park, Ill., daughter of the late Frederick Schroeder and Marjorie (Polkow) Schroeder. She grew up in Riverside, Ill., attended St. Mary School, Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park and Western Illinois University. Ms. Schroeder had a gift for language. She taught herself French through educational records and by corresponding with a pen pal from France during grammar school and high school. John J Diamonte, Sr. of North East died at home Friday, May 23, 2014. He was 67.
Born in Charlestown on December 24, 1946, he was the son of the late Mario and the late Lorraine (Borden) Diamonte. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he trained in underwater demolition. William R. Blevins, of Rising Sun, died at his home on Monday, May 19, 2014. He was 79. Mr. Blevins was born in Corner Rock, Virginia on May 24, 1934, son of the late Albert Blevins and Sally Miller. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for over 25 years at General Motors in Delaware. George William Addis, of Elkton, died Monday, May 19, 2014 in Laurelwood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Elkton. He was 69.
Mr. Addis was born in Chester, Pa., on October 22, 1944, son of the late Cleon and the late Charlotte Gavin Addis. Irene R. Delp, of Baltimore, died on Thursday, May 15, 2014. She was 93.
Mrs. Delp was born in McDowell, WV, on February 18, 1921, daughter of the late Henry W. Lawless and Julia Mae Kinder Lawless. She was a graduate from North Fork High School, in North Fork, WV. She had been employed at G.C. Murphy's, North Fork, Epstein's located in Highlandtown, MD, and Lerner Shop in East Point Mall. Clifford "Buttons" Kline, of North East died at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware on Saturday, May 17, 2014. He was 85.
Mr. Kline was a lifelong resident of Cecil County, born in Elkton on March 1, 1929, son of the late Samuel and the late Hilda Laird Kline. Charles Henry Gant Jr. died May 14, 2014. He was 94.
He was born December 29, 1919 in Wilmington Delaware, son of the late Charles H. and Enid Roys Gant. Mr. Gant was a graduate of Wilmington Friends School and Rutgers University. Following graduation, Charles was proudly a part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a veteran of World War II. During World War II, he participated in the invasion of Europe on June 6, 1944 also known as "D-Day." He was ranked as 1st Lieutenant and also awarded a Bronze Medal for his act of Bravery in Action during the Battle of the Bulge. Kathryn Anne Usilton-Kriebel, of Cecilton, died on Saturday, May 10, 2014. She was 42.
