Virginia Blake Howard, 90, passed away on November 30, 2015, at her home in Perryville, Maryland. She was born on July 18, 1925, in North East, MD, the daughter of T. Kennard and Helen Moffitt Blake.
Virginia grew up in North East and graduated from North East High School in 1942. She was a 1945 graduate of the University of Delaware. After graduation, she taught World History and Spanish at Elkton High School. On November 24, 1948, Virginia married Lowell Howard in North East and they were happily married for 66 years. In 1965, she and Lowell opened Howard’s Market in North East. They sold the business in 1979. From 1982 until 2015, Virginia acted as bookkeeper for Lindy’s Market. She and Lowell moved to Perryville in 1988. Virginia was well known in the county as an excellent bridge player, having been a member of a local bridge club and attending bridge parties for over sixty years. Doris Elizabeth Calao, 89 years, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at her home in Perryville, MD. Born December 11, 1925 in North East, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ralph J. and Hazel E. VanPelt. Doris was a homemaker who enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was formerly employed by the Cecil County Public Schools as a General Aide at the Perryville Elementary School where she touched the hearts of students and staff alike. Doris was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, MD. In her free time, Doris loved to play Bingo. More recently, she especially enjoyed her front porch where she loved feeding her squirrels. Robert (Bob) L. Gilbert, 83, of West Grove died peacefully at his home Monday, November 30, 2015. He was the husband of the late Margaret Irene Gilbert. Born in Oxford, he was the son of the late Roy and Helen Jeffers Gilbert. Bob lived in West Grove, PA all his life. He was a veteran of the US Army and served as Corporal in the Korean War from 1952 – 1954. He was a retired truck driver for Penn Supreme. Bob was also employed with Abernathy Trash Removal, BFI Waste Management and owned and operated Chatham Lunch. Bob was a member of the Four Square Gospel Church, Oxford and the Western Clinton County Sportsman Association. He enjoyed his time hunting and fishing at his family cabin in Clinton County PA. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and was an avid Philadelphia Eagle fan. |
