by Bud Hart According to junior varsity baseball coach, John Girvin, Mother Nature has been cruel to the Lancaster-Lebanon Baseball League. “All non-league games have been postponed and the opening day was delayed three days,” wrote Girvin. “The team practiced twice on an actual field going into the first game.” While Monday, May 8, was supposed to be the last game, there were make ups with Ephrata scheduled for Tuesday and a non-league contest with Exeter on Thursday. The original Exeter game was to be played on March 28 and then again on April 29 and then on May 11. Mother Nature had the “last laugh” as usual and the Exeter game was simply cancelled for this season- three strikes you’re out.

The Solanco junior varsity split their week’s contests, losing to Warwick on Tuesday, April 18, and bounding back for a win over McCaskey on Wednesday, April 19. Solanco's JV baseball team won two of its final three games.
Last Wednesday, the Mules lost 4-1 to Lampeter-Strasburg. Coleman Dow started for Solanco. Despite giving up two hits and a walk in the first, Dow got out of the inning with only one run scoring as first baseman, Henry Woy, made a heads-up play to get the final out. Solanco's JV baseball team won its lone game last week.
With the Mules' home field too wet, Solanco traveled to Conestoga Valley for a "home" game and came away with a 7-3 victory. Gabe Horn was the starting pitcher for the Mules. While the Bucks loaded the bases without a hit in the first, Horn recorded a strikeout to prevent a rally. Solanco's JV baseball team was looking for positives after losing three games to Section One foes last week.
"The Mules could only plate four runs in three games but they hit in to a significant amount of tough luck as they are putting the ball in play and not striking out," coach John Girvin said. Solanco's JV baseball team lost three games to section foes last week.
"It was a tough week," coach John Girvin said. "Hopefully it was a learning experience for the boys." |
