The Solanco football team lost its regular season finale but still managed to make the playoffs by virtue of its solid resumé.
The Mules (5-5) earned the 14th and final seed in the district tournament. Solanco will travel to third-seeded Shippensburg Friday night at 7. Manheim Central, seeded fourth in the district tournament, defeated the host Mules 49-20 Friday night, October 25. The Solanco JV girls basketball team earned a couple of wins to go over the .500 mark for the season.
The Mules edged Ephrata 29-27 Friday night. Solanco’s junior varsity football team had trouble with visiting Kennard Dale on Monday, October 27. Kennard Dale won the game 38-24. The Solanco JV softball team finished the season with a record of 13-2, losing only to Hempfield and Ephrata.
“This year’s weather patterns were quite a challenge when it came to being outside, but everyone made the most of our practice times and games,” coach Chad McDowell said. “I think we only ended up having thre and a half practices outside on our actual field. Even though we were forced to have many inside practices, thse young ladies stayed focused, they kept in good spirits. an they continued working hard daily. I really appreciate them for having such a great attitude and work ethic. This was an absolutely wonderful group of young ladies to be around day in and day out. They learned a lot about the game of softball this year, sportsmanship, and most importantly, they learned how to be great teammates.Their teammates and the memories (on and off the field)will be what they will remember most from this season. This was a memorable season and we had a lot of FUN this season and this team spelled fun, W-I-N." The Solanco JV baseball team split a pair of games last week.
The Mules dropped a 10-0 decision to Elizabethtown last Wednesday. Solanco had made an earlier trip to E’town and won in nine innings while playing as the home team. "Needless to say the Bears were eager for the rematch," coach John Girvin said. The Solanco JV softball team pounded Conestoga Valley 18-0 in three innings Monday, April 28, in its lone game of the week.
Albrea Doss picked up the win, striking out seven while allowing one hit. She also added a pair of doubles. Bekah Borcky was 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs. Makayla Pluck provided three hits including a triple and three RBIs. Leila Redmond recorded two hits including a triple and swiped two bases and Sarah Frawley had two hits. Kalyn Burger had a single and an RBI and Julianna Zak also singled. The Solanco JV baseball team split a pair of games last week.
The Mules upended host Lebanon 7-4 last Thursday. Solanco scored a run in the top of the first on a walk to Phil Probst and a triple by Dawson Gote. The Solanco JV softball team compiled a 2-2 record last week.
The Mules dropped a 12-8 decision to visiting Ephrata Friday. It was a rough week for the Solanco JV baseball team.
The Mules suffered four losses in a four-day span. Ephrata defeated Solanco 12-2 in five innings last Thursday. Matt McCarriston, Dawson Gote, and Mike Worthington pitched for the Mules. Only four of the Mounts' runs were earned. "Again the defense came apart," coach John Girvin said. "When the Mules put the ball in play the opponent's defense was flawless." |
