Solanco boys basketball coach Scott Long plans to use his squad's season-ending three-game win streak as a springboard to even more success next year.
The Mules defeated Ephrata and Lebanon last week to finish with a record of 11-11 (7-9 Lancaster-Lebanon League). Solanco's girls basketball team split its final two games of the season to finish with a record of 7-15 overall, 5-11 Lancaster-Lebanon League.
Ephrata upended the Mules 60-32 Tuesday, February 2, in the finale. Needing a victory to claim the Section Two title outright, Ephrata stormed out to a 15-0 lead. Joey Davis captured an individual title at 138 pounds to help the Solanco wrestling team finish fourth at the Lancaster-Lebanon League championships Saturday at Garden Spot.
In the finals, Davis posted an 8-3 victory over Josh Renninger of Annville-Cleona. Davis had advanced to the title match with two falls and a major decision. Seven more Mules finished in the Top 8. Solanco's boys basketball team won its only game last week.
The Mules posted a 63-60 overtime victory over visiting Garden Spot Thursday. "It was quite a game," Solanco coach Scott Long said. "They had beaten us by two in overtime in the first meeting. I think the teams are evenly matched. They have good guard play and nice size. It's very comparable. I think we're a little better defensively." Solanco's girls basketball team put together its first winning streak of the season.
The Mules mauled York Country Day Saturday, 48 hours after downing Garden Spot. Leading YCD 15-9 at halftime, Solanco blew the game open by outscoring the visitors 20-7 in the third quarter. |
