Solanco's Tim Fetterman blamed himself when Mechanicsburg rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie Solanco in a 5A District III baseball tournament first round game Monday, May 20.
It didn't take long for the Mules' right fielder to make amends. Fetterman atoned for a throwing error with the game-winning RBI single in the home half of the inning to give seventh-seeded Solanco a 4-3 victory. "I was the one who pretty much caused that three-run inning for them so I thought, go up there and make it right," said Fetterman. "I made it right." The Solanco Lacrosse Club participated in the final Lancaster Area Girls Lacrosse Association tournament of the season Saturday May 18, at Cocalico.
Manheim Central got a big hit and prevented Solanco from doing the same.
That spelled the difference in a Lancaster-Lebanon League baseball tournament first round game Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Field in Ephrata. The Section Three champion Barons tallied twice in the bottom of the fifth to snap a 1-1 tie and downed the Mules 3-1. The Solanco Lacrosse Club's boys high school team rallied but came up one goal short in its season finale.
Down 4-0 at halftime, Solanco shifted its offensive alignment and got back into the game, but lost 6-5 to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes team based out of West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Md. Twelfth graders Corey Stively and Hayden Fox combined for a no-hitter on Senior Day as the Solanco baseball team topped visiting York Suburban 3-0 Tuesday, May 7.
Undefeated Lampeter-Strasburg dashed the Solanco softball team's league playoff hopes with a 12-2 win in five innings Friday afternoon.
The Mules needed a victory over the visiting Pioneers to leapfrog Elizabethtown for second place in Section Two. Solanco's JV softball squad won two of three games last week.
Lampeter-Strasburg scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to down the host Mules 4-3 Friday afternoon. Brett Miller seldom shows emotion on a softball field.
The ordinarily stoic Solanco softball coach made an exception after reaching a career milestone. Miller notched the 500th victory of his 31-year career Wednesday, May 1, as the Mules topped host Ephrata 9-0. The Solanco Junior High boys and girls track and field teams both defeated visiting Cocalico in the last dual meet of the season to finish with a 5-2 record.
