The Solanco volleyball team won two of its last three games to finish with a record of 4-18.
Lititz Christian 3, Solanco 0 The visiting Mules lost 25-16, 25-23, 26-24 Thursday night, October 17. Emma Canale led Solanco with five kills and five blocks. Jada Dow recorded four kills. Nathaly Molinarez had 15 digs and two aces. Alondra Quinonez notched four aces. Solanco's volleyball team suffered three setbacks last week.
Garden Spot 3, Solanco 0 The Spartans downed the Mules 25-14, 25-12, 25-12 Thursday, October 10. Nathaly Molinarez paced Solanco with three kills. Cheyanne Cutler contributed two blocks. Kate Unger notched eight digs. The Solanco volleyball team dropped three matches last week.
Manheim Central 3, Solanco 0 The visiting Barons prevailed 25-18, 25-14, 25-16 Thursday, September 26. Cheyanne Cutler had a team-high three kills and Nathaly Molinarez added two. Jada Dow notched four blocks and four aces. Madi Davis posted nine assists and Maggie Perry provided five kills. Solanco coach Meghan Cross saw some positive signs in her team's 25-19, 25-12, 25-17 loss to visiting Lancaster Catholic Monday night, September 9. "We scored a lot more points as a whole," Cross said. "We made some improvements on our coverage and we had a lot of play at the net which are two things we really focused on at the end of last week after our matches." Nathaly Molinarez led the Mules with five kills and Jada Dow added three. Emma Canale contributed five blocks and Anya Fisher chipped in two. Molinarez led Solanco with nine digs and Madi Davis and Alondra Quinonez each added five. Davis dished out seven assists. "We're still working on the passing," said Cross. "A lot of it is positioning and confidence. We've got to keep confidence in ourselves. Volleyball is a mental game." Solanco boys soccer loses to Octorara Solanco's boys soccer team lost to visiting Octorara 6-1 Tuesday, September 10.
After Octorara went ahead 3-0, Nic Cozzone scored the Mules' lone goal with 7:48 left in the first half. Cozzone's long shot hit the left goal post then caromed off the Braves' goalie and into the net. The Solanco volleyball team has spent the two previous seasons setting a foundation.
Now it's time to see what the Mules can construct. "We're still in the building process but I have set the bar pretty high because we have tons of talent," Solanco coach Meghan Cross said. "It's a motivated group who wants to play. They've been working well together. We still have a young team. I look forward to the next couple of years. This team will continue to grow in their confidence and their volleyball." by Bud Hart
The Solanco volleyball team closed its season with a pair of wins and a loss. The Lady Mules defeated Lititz Christian 3-2 in sets of 31-29, 18-25, 25-21, 23-25, and 15-11 on October 18. In a non-league contest played on their home court, Wednesday, October 12, the Mules lost to Eastern York (3-0) in straight sets 17-25, 22-25 and 9-25.
“We gave up too many unforced errors and our passing and coverage was not on tonight,” said coach, Meghan Cross. Solanco volleyball coach Kathy Roenne knows it will be a challenging season but is seeing signs her team will be up to the task.
The Mules lost five seniors from last year's team which finished 12-5 and second place in Section Two. Solanco advanced to the district tournament where they lost to Palmyra in the opening round. The Solanco volleyball team's season came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Palmyra in an opening round district match Saturday.
Palmyra prevailed 25-17, 25-17, 18-25, 25-12. The Solanco volleyball team was swept by Warwick in the opening round of the Lancaster-Lebanon League tournament Friday at Elizabethtown.
Gabby Recay recorded six kills to pace the Mules and Maribeth Ault added four. Taylor Wagoner had eight assists and three aces. |
