The Solanco volleyball team was swept by Warwick in the opening round of the Lancaster-Lebanon League tournament Friday at Elizabethtown. Gabby Recay recorded six kills to pace the Mules and Maribeth Ault added four. Taylor Wagoner had eight assists and three aces. "It was a tough game to lose coming off a great season," Solanco coach Kathy Roenne said. "It was just not our night. A bit flat, but this team has played some great matches this season. One match in the playoffs I remind them does not take away from them the good ball they have played and what it took for them to get to playoffs and districts. The Mules have qualified for the league playoffs four of the last six seasons. Solanco defeated Manheim Central 25-18, 23-25, 25-15, 25-21 in last Wednesday's regular season finale. Redcay collected 16 kills and four blocks. Wagoner contributed 23 assists and three aces. Elizabethtown outlasted the Mules in five sets Monday, October 13. Solanco battled back from a two sets to nothing deficit before the Bears prevailed 25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 23-25, 15-11. Redcay had 20 kills and five blocks. Ault notched 11 kills. Angela Fiorentino added 22 digs. Wagoner handed out 21 assists and Chelsea Ressler registered 18. In the JV match, Solanco triumphed 17-25, 25-19, 25-19. "This was a great JV match and really shows all the hard work that the JV team has done this season," coach Meghan Cross said. "JV is a time for learning and growing as a team and as individual players. So much growth occurs from preseason to the end. Solanco started off the match point for point with Elizabethtown and working out a few kinks along the way. We kicked it up a notch in the second and third games to win the match. Teamwork and determination won the match. Our defense and coverage were on and we put the ball into play on the court." Comments are closed.
