The Solanco JV softball team finished the season with a record of 13-2, losing only to Hempfield and Ephrata. “This year’s weather patterns were quite a challenge when it came to being outside, but everyone made the most of our practice times and games,” coach Chad McDowell said. “I think we only ended up having thre and a half practices outside on our actual field. Even though we were forced to have many inside practices, thse young ladies stayed focused, they kept in good spirits. an they continued working hard daily. I really appreciate them for having such a great attitude and work ethic. This was an absolutely wonderful group of young ladies to be around day in and day out. They learned a lot about the game of softball this year, sportsmanship, and most importantly, they learned how to be great teammates.Their teammates and the memories (on and off the field)will be what they will remember most from this season. This was a memorable season and we had a lot of FUN this season and this team spelled fun, W-I-N." Pitching statistics:
Makayla Pluck went 7-2 on the season. She struck out 47 batter in 47 innings of work "Makayla was the workhorse on the staff this season," McDowell said. "She logged a lot of innings and threw a lot of pitches. She had good velocity and kept a lot of opponent batters off balance at the plate. " Albrea Doss went 3-0. She struck out 11 batters in 10 innings this season. Albrea worked hard all season developing her command inside the circle," McDowell said. "She threw the ball hard and had good location." Kalyn Burger went 2-0 in very limited action in the circle. "Kalyn battled a nagging shoulder injury all season which did not allow her to pitch as much as everyone hoped," the coach said. "However, she had a great attitude and she continued to be a leader even though she was not pitching as much as she wanted to." Kelsey Bastien's role on the staff was in relief most of the season. She logged three innings this season. "Whenever she stepped inside the circle, she threw with confidence and good location," said McDowell.
