The Solanco JV softball team compiled a 2-2 record last week. The Mules dropped a 12-8 decision to visiting Ephrata Friday. "We allowed Ephrata too many extra outs and they capitalized on our mistakes," coach Chad McDowell said. "Bottom line was they made the plays and we struggled to. However, even after digging ourselves a hole early in the game, they never quit playing and we gave ourselves an opportunity in the later innings. It was a learning experience for everyone involved."
Hannah Pollock provided two hits and two RBIs for the Mules. Julianna Zak was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Makayla Pluck tripled and singled. Bekah Borcky belted a two-run homer and stole three bases. Kalyn Burger singled and had two stolen bases and Haley Pittman contributed a hit. The Mules clobbered Warwick 17-2 in five innings last Thursday. Pluck picked up the win, yielding just one hit while fanning four. "Makayla had the support of her defense behind her, as everyone came through making the plays that needed to be made," said McDowell. "This was a complete team effort with everyone contributing to the victory in one way or another." Pluck also went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Haley Conklin collected three hits including two doubles and had three RBIs. Borcky was 3 for 4 with a triple. Leila Redmond recorded two hits and two RBIs. Pollock singled twice and Albrea Doss delivered a hit and two RBIs. Solanco pummeled McCaskey 18-2 in four innings last Wednesday. Doss and Kelsey Bastien combined on a four hitter with Doss earning the win. Doss also had two hits and an RBI. Pollock had three hits including a home run and four RBIs. Borcky also had a home run and two singles and knocked in three. Brianna Firlein was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs. Redmond tripled and drove in a run. Emily Brown had a single and an RBI and Zak recorded a pair of hits. Hempfield defeated the Mules 12-4 Monday, April 21. Pluck pitched a complete game. "I thought Makayla threw the ball well," McDowell said. "Unfortunately we committed five errors in the field behind her. This was very uncharacteristic of our team this season as we usually make the plays. When you are playing a very good team like Hempfield, you have limited opportunities to score. We gave them extra outs and they took advantage." Conklin homered to lead the Mules' offense. Bastien hit a triple and Pluck and Firlein each had a double. Doss had a single and two RBIs and Burger added a single. Comments are closed.
