John William “Bill” Johnston, Jr., 82, of Elkton, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2017. Born in Hunting Ground, WV, on July 30, 1934, he was the son of the late John W. and Reva Hinkle Johnston.
Mr. Johnston retired after 35 years of service from the Chrysler Corporation, Newark, DE, as an assembler. He was a member of UAW Local #1183, Newark, and an active member of Elkton United Methodist Church, where he participated in two mission trips to Africa and Costa Rica. Mr. Johnston and his wife had been foster parents to many children. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. William Rex Funk, 88 years, of Port Deposit, MD, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 1, 2017 peacefully at his home. Rex joined his beloved wife, Pauline, in heaven on their 67th wedding anniversary. Rex was born on December 25, 1928 to the late William Glen and Stella Edith Anderson Funk. Alongside his devoted wife, Pauline, they raised three wonderful children and was known as Pap Paw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye. Together, Rex and Pauline loved to travel and visited every state in the country, 9 of the 12 provinces in Canada as well as Germany, Egypt, Jordan and walked where Jesus walked in Jerusalem. Rex was a founding member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Port Deposit, MD. He loved the church and was also a deacon for approximately 60 years. Rex loved music, especially hymns and Southern Gospel, and was the church’s song leader until he decided to retire at the age of 80. Samantha S. Marziano, age 20, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017. She was born in Elkton, MD on September 3, 1996 to Michael Szilagyi and Emily Marziano.
Samantha graduated from Elkton High School in 2014 and went on to attend Cecil College. She worked at the North Bay Adventure Camp and most recently worked at WaWa in Elkton, at Route 40 and Landing Lane. Samantha was a huge fan of Harry Potter, and enjoyed True Crime Podcasts, Star Wars and word play and puns. James Monroe Lockett went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2017.
James was born in Baltimore, MD on September 26, 1930 to the late Abraham and Anne Mae Lockett. He was a dedicated and devoted participant of Bayside Community Network, Inc. for 35 years. During his time with Bayside, James worked on various projects and developed many close and endearing friendships. It can be agreed on by all that James was happy and led a fulfilling life. James had a beautiful voice and enjoyed sharing his gift by singing gospel hymns. He enjoyed reading, going for leisurely strolls, eating and being with those he cared for. James had a sly sense of humor and an unflappable personality. His happiest days were spent watching people while drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying a peppermint patty. Jeffrey Duane Artrip, 52 years, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017.
Born February 15, 1965 in Baltimore, MD, he was the beloved son of Arvil Artrip of Perryville, MD, and Marilyn (Artrip) Skinner of Bel Air, MD. Jeff was greatly loved by his step-father, Vernon Skinner of Bel Air, MD, and leaves behind his cherished brother, Brian Scott Artrip of Perryville, MD. A graduate of Perryville High School, Jeff was employed by the Town of Perryville in their maintenance department. He worked for many years in construction and was most proud of building his own home in Rising Sun, MD, which he shared with his many friends. Heidi Ann Lane, of Conowingo, passed away on June 27, 2017.
She was 42. Born on February 5, 1975 in Brattleboro, VT, she was the daughter of David Lane and the late Anna Lane. She was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School in Brattleboro, VT, class of 1994, where she played field hockey and softball. She went on to attend Castleton State College in Castleton, VT, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. As an employee, she was a very smart, dedicated and hard worker. In her spare time, she greatly enjoyed reading, skiing, and long walks. A devoted mother, sister, daughter and friend, Heidi adored her daughters, who were the love of her life. She will be remembered as always enjoying life and being a ray of sunshine. Philip Syron Bathon, Jr., age 56, of Lake Park, FL, formerly of Elkton, MD, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017. Philip was born in Elkton on June 22, 1960 to the late Philip Syron Bathon and Mary Jane Long Bathon. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1979. As a young man, he was a volunteer member of the Singerly Fire Company, attended the University of Maryland College Park, and was an officer with the Ocean City Police Department, where he also started an electrical contracting business. In 1995, he left Ocean City to work in Uzbekistan as a project manager for a large industrial project. Afterward, he continued to travel extensively before settling in Palm Beach, FL, where he started a marine contracting business. He continued travelling throughout the Caribbean and Central America for business and pleasure until his death. Judith (Judy) Ann (Speers) Lanigan of Port Deposit, a retired nurse, devoted mother and grandmother, went home to meet our Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2017 after battling colon cancer for the last nine months. Judy began her career as a nurse at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and went on to care and serve in hospitals, doctor offices and nursing homes in Baltimore, Harford and Cecil Counties. Judy had a servant's heart. She served as an enthusiastic volunteer at West Nottingham Presbyterian Church, leading the Thanksgiving Dinner each year, Wednesday night dinners, and serving multiple terms on the church leadership body, the Session. Judy loved traveling to see her children, and spending time with family in Florida. During retirement, she and her husband John spent winters cruising with family members in the Caribbean and on the Panama Canal. Del Kennedy, age 75, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Born in Grafton, WV, on December 8, 1941, he was the son of the late Virgil D. and Loretta Mayle Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy retired as a driver for UPS. Lynne Ann Schreiber, 51 of Charlestown, MD, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 21, 2017.
She was born in Altoona, PA, on January 25, 1966. She was a Bishop Guilfoyle High School and Pennsylvania State University Alumnus. Lynne enjoyed Jeeps, karaoke, loved animals and helping people. She was entrepreneur as well as enjoyed bartending. |
