John William “Bill” Johnston, Jr., 82, of Elkton, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2017. Born in Hunting Ground, WV, on July 30, 1934, he was the son of the late John W. and Reva Hinkle Johnston. Mr. Johnston retired after 35 years of service from the Chrysler Corporation, Newark, DE, as an assembler. He was a member of UAW Local #1183, Newark, and an active member of Elkton United Methodist Church, where he participated in two mission trips to Africa and Costa Rica. Mr. Johnston and his wife had been foster parents to many children. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his children, John W. Johnston III (Cordelia), Mears, VA, Thomas E. Johnston (Dee), Cecilton, MD, Karen J. Colclough (Bob), Bear, DE, Michael Murphy, Cary, NC, and C. Mark Johnston (Gloria), Elkton, MD; loving companion, Pat Welch, Franklin, WV; 8 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters and 1 brother.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, M. Leone Johnston. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Elkton Cemetery.
