William Rex Funk, 88 years, of Port Deposit, MD, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 1, 2017 peacefully at his home. Rex joined his beloved wife, Pauline, in heaven on their 67th wedding anniversary. Rex was born on December 25, 1928 to the late William Glen and Stella Edith Anderson Funk. Alongside his devoted wife, Pauline, they raised three wonderful children and was known as Pap Paw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye. Together, Rex and Pauline loved to travel and visited every state in the country, 9 of the 12 provinces in Canada as well as Germany, Egypt, Jordan and walked where Jesus walked in Jerusalem. Rex was a founding member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Port Deposit, MD. He loved the church and was also a deacon for approximately 60 years. Rex loved music, especially hymns and Southern Gospel, and was the church’s song leader until he decided to retire at the age of 80. A lover of softball, Rex was a pitcher for the church’s softball team and even pitched a perfect game (no walks, no hits). He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. Rex was a postal worker, a draftsman and contractor who built over 100 homes in the area.
Rex is survived by his three children: son, Rex Alan Funk, daughters, S. Susan Buck (George) and Laurie Ann Musick (Mark Burchard), one brother (Walter Funk); grandchildren, Jodi Finney (Charles), Jeremy Funk, Tiara Locchetto (Louis), Tawni Kuhling (Kyle), Haley Westgate (Jamie); Hannah Masciangelo (Raymond); Trevor Buck (Kirsten) and Tyler Buck; twelve great –grandchildren, Connor, Collin, Carter, Caylee, Sydney, Graylin, Paul, Blake, Brooks, Talbot, Remy and one on the way. In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Funk; brother, Lewis Funk; sister, Rachel Simcox; and daughter-in-law, Carol Funk. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 6, 2017, 2 PM, at the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Port Deposit, MD. Visitations for family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017, 7 PM until 9 PM, at the church. A second visitation will be held Thursday, 1 PM until 2 PM, at the church prior to the funeral service. Pastor Dr. Harold Phillips of Pleasant View Baptist Church will officiate.
