Tammy Levonne Kendrick Green, 53, born in Havre de Grace, MD passed away Jan. 7, 2018, due to complications of a lifelong battle with diabetes. She was the wife of Eric Green of North East, MD and mother of Stephanie Green Roman of Aberdeen, MD. She was the loving grandmother of Xavier, Jesse and Lydia. She was also survived by a sister Joanne Jameson of Aberdeen, MD. Thomas L. White of Rising Sun died Wednesday, January 3, 2018. He was 62. Born in Havre de Grace, MD on April 16, 1955 he was the son of Dorothy Ann (Parker) White and the late Donald Lloyd White Sr. Mr. White was brought up in the Baptist faith. For 28 years he worked at Bruce Industrial, New Castle, Del., as a construction foreman and was a former post commander for the Sons of the American Legion. Mr. White enjoyed watching reality TV and was an ace mechanic who loved working on cars, go-karts and anything that had a motor. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Odessa Mae Hawley, 92 years, of Perryville, MD, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in the Laurelwood Care Center of Elkton, MD. Born August 19, 1925 in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Jesse L. and Martha Schartner Poffenbarger.
Mrs. Hawley taught Sunday School at the Five Rivers Assembly of God Church of Elkton, MD, for 35 years. She was formerly employed as a typist by Glen L. Martin of Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Hawley is survived by her brother, Roger Poffenbarger of Elkton, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Donald “Blokie” Preston Conley, 69, of Conowingo, MD, passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2018 at his home. Born February 20, 1948 in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of the late Dorothy Harris. Blokie was the devoted husband of Lori Conley; loving father of Jaimi Conley-Mahan (Kevin), Paula Conley (Stacy), and Amanda Johnston (Brendon); adored grandfather and great-grandfather of Taylor Mahan-Gallagher (Jack), Christian Conley, Peyten Conley, Dylan Johnston, Bryce Johnston, Colton Johnston, Emerson Mahan and Harlow Gallagher; cherished brother of Cathy Siler, Lewis Harris (Melanie), and Joy Miller (LeRoy); dear son-in-law of Mary Bensinger. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and hunting partner, Bruce Bensinger. Blokie graduated from Havre de Grace High School, class of 1966, and began his employment at J.M. Huber shortly thereafter. He worked there for nearly 38 years, procuring several patents through his research & development while cultivating lasting friendships with his vivacious personality. Harold Matthews, 82 of Port Deposit passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the University Of Maryland Center, Baltimore.
Born in Fawn Township, PA, on September 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Ocie and the late Olive Matthews. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as a millwright and carpenter for the union. Carl Lawrence Thomas, 69 of North East, MD, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at home. Born in Princeton, WV, on August 12, 1948, he was the son of the late Haden and Emma Lou (Chambers) Thomas. He retired as a production supervisor from Air Products, Elkton, MD after 36 years of service. A member of the Moose Lodge, Elkton, MD, Mr. Thomas really enjoyed bowling and bowled on both the Monday and Thursday Night Leagues. Nancy Cochran Henderson, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Born in Cecil County, MD, on November 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Thelma Kauffman Cochran.
Mrs. Henderson retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground as a payroll supervisor. She loved volunteering at Bayside Community Network, and enjoyed dancing, bowling, reading, and crossword puzzles. Survivors include her children, Wade A. Henderson, Newark, DE, Ivy R. Henderson (Wayne), Elkton, MD, Tammy M. Stanley (Jim), North East, MD, and Brenda L. Miller (Sonny), Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Cody Stanley, Chesapeake City, MD, and Heather Stanley, Elkton, MD; and siblings, Lillian Phipps (Paul), Elkton, MD, Kathryn Roland, Quarryville, PA; and James Cochran (Cathy), Florida. Dolores “Dee” Johnson, age 74, of Elkton, MD, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017. She was the wife of the late Stephen J. Johnson.
Born in Elkton on January 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Lemon Clyde and Margaret Adkins. Mrs. Johnson’s 20 years of federal service started as a data transcriber at Pami Conus—USNTC, Bainbridge, MD. She retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground’s Ballistic Research Lab. She maintained and valued the friendships made during her career. She was a member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Mrs. Johnson loved spending time with her family. Some of her fondest memories were of gatherings with family and friends. She enjoyed Maryland crabs, playing bingo, trips to Atlantic City, sightseeing and in healthier years, traveling. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of Amedisys Home Health for their assistance and care. Kenneth Francis Ferro, 67, of Elkton, MD, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017. Born in Wilmington, DE on November 24, 1950, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Mary Alice Fulton Ferro.
A self-employed general contractor, Mr. Ferro was the owner of Newark Builders. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as fishing, hunting and drag racing. Survivors include his companion of 22 years and wife of 13 years, Laura Eder Ferro; children, Jason Meekins and Christy Meekins, both of Elkton; siblings, Bruce “the Moose” Ferro, Jackie Ferro, Danny Ferro and Kim Ritchie; grandchildren, Brandon “Fish” Meekins, Lynsie Moore and R.J. Moore, nieces Ashley and Rachael and nephews Chris and Jonathan. James Jesse Peart, 60 years, known as Jesse, of Shady Valley, TN, formerly of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Born March 20, 1957 in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of June I. Blakeley of Port Deposit, MD, and James W. Peart of Charlestown, MD.
Jesse loved going to car races and watching them on TV. He loved to ride his motorcycle, going to rallies in Ocean City, MD, and Daytona Beach, FL. He also loved to play golf. Jessse is survived by his sister, Theresa K. Jackson of Port Deposit, MD; brothers, John W. Peart of Lake City, FL, Willard C. Steele of North East, MD, Jeffrey Blakeley of Port Deposit, MD; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. |
