Vivian Arlene Burger Stecher of Perryville died Friday, January 9, 2015 in Atlantic General Hospital of Berlin. She was 87. Born November 6, 1927 in Menomonie, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Arnold and Emma Meslow Burger. She was formerly employed as a Registered Nurse by the Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace. Mrs. Stecher was a member of Perryville United Methodist Church and the Aiken Homemakers of Perryville. She volunteered at the Good As New Thrift Shop associated with Union Hospital of Cecil County in Elkton, and also was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Cecil County. Margaret “Peggy” Baker Robichaud, of Bel Air, MD, formerly of Port Deposit, died Thursday, January 8, 2015 in Brightview Assisted Living of Bel Air. She was 90.
Born August 9, 1924 in Port Deposit, she was the daughter of the late John and Marie Lamm Baker. Mrs. Robichaud was a member of Tome Memorial United Methodist Church and a graduate of the former Jacob Tome Institute, both of Port Deposit. Phyllis Johnson Hurd, , formerly of North East, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Jacobs Well Assisted Living of Bel Air. She was 88.
Born May 22, 1926 in Perryman, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Jackson and Nellie Leight Johnson. Mrs. Hurd is survived by her son, William A. Hurd, V, of Port Deposit; daughter, Cherie-Lee Hurd Riddle of Havre de Grace; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack Johnson. George R. Gregg, Jr. of Oxford, Pa. died Monday, January 5, 2015 at Jennersville Regional Hospital, West Grove, Pa. He was 56. Born in Oxford he was the son of George R. Gregg, Sr. of Oxford and the late Constance Ann Cunningham Stoddard. Mr. Gregg was employed with General Motors at the Boxwood Plant, Wilmington, Del., retiring in 2000. He attended St. John’s United Methodist Church, Elkton. Edgar A. “Mick” McMullen, Sr. of Charlestown died Wednesday, January 7, 2015, in the Abbey Manor Assisted Living, Elkton. He was 91.
He was born in Charlestown on October 21, 1923, the son of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Barnes) McMullen. Mr. McMullen graduated from Jacob Tome Institute in Port Deposit in June 1941. He then attended a government trade school to learn the machinist trade and in September 1941, became an employee of the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a machinist all of his working life and retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1980. One week later, he went to work for Thiokol as a machinist and retired from there in 1986. He always said he enjoyed his work as a machinist and thanks to the Lord; he became good at his work. Bernard L. McKay died January 1, 2015. He was 85.
He was born February 16, 1929, In Cambridge, Ohio, son of Peter and Nancy McKay. Mr. McKay found his way to Perryville through his brother, Pete. In doing so, he met the love of his life, Beverly Neff, who preceded him in death. Charles J. “Chuck” Ward, Jr., 56, of Elkton, MD, formerly of Nottingham, PA passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home. Born in Lancaster he was the son of Theresa “Terri” Lancaster Ward of Nottingham and the late Charles J. “Bud” Ward, Sr. Chuck was a farmer and mushroom grower. He was employed with W. C. Logan and Son, Elkton, MD as a heavy equipment operator for seventeen years. Joseph Brandon Johnson of Port Deposit died Friday, January 2, 2015. He was 23.
He was born in Elkton on August 30, 1991. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, with visitation from 2-3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home. |
