Rodney E. Kennedy of Rising Sun died suddenly Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. He was 76. Born in Elkton on December 10, 1938, he was the son of the late Earl Lee and the late Margaret (McMillan) Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He then spent his life serving the residents of the State of Maryland and Cecil County, first with the Maryland State Police for 28 ½ years and then as a two-term Cecil County Sheriff. He enjoyed gardening, camping, the beach, Florida, golf, DIY projects and history. Most of all he enjoyed his family and friends and loved the time he spent with them. Nina Belle Armour, of North East, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Mineral, Va. She was 83.
Born in N.C., on December 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Calvin W. and the late Bessie (Miller) Sexton. She was the wife of Leon C. "Crabby" Armour, Sr., who preceded her in death as did her two sons, Leon C. Armour, Jr. and Douglas A. Armour. Mrs. Armour was a cook for many years at area restaurants, including The Chuck House, North East, Hollywood Diner, Elkton, and Weaver Steakhouse, Elkton. Richard John Hartman of Colora died Sunday, January 18, 2015. He was 73.
Born July 23, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Wiater) Hartman. He retired from the USN holding the rank of E7 as a Chief Operations Specialist where he proudly served for 22 years. He was a Vietnam veteran who received the National Defense Service medal, two Vietnam service medals, and the Armed Services Expeditionary medal. Stella Kirkey, 84, of Elkton, MD passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, TX. Born October 28, 1930, Stella was the daughter of the late Milton and Luanna (Thompson) Viars. Stella cherished her time spent with her wonderful family and she enjoyed making sure everyone in her family was well taken care of. Fay Bennett Rodgers of Chesapeake City died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Union Hospital. She was 63. Born August 6, 1951 in Elkton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Secord) Bennett. She was a lifelong employee of the Bayard House where she worked as a server. She was very passionate about serving her customers well and always remembered their drinks. In her free time she enjoyed baking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Janice Marie Shivery of Conowingo died Wednesday, January 14, 2015. She was 77. Born January 1, 1938 in Chester, Pa., shewas the daughter of the late Bernard B. Williams and the late Della Mae (Guy) Freeman. She enjoyed gardening where she was a member of her local gardening club and she was an avid birdwatcher. However, her greatest joy was her time spent with her loving family and friends, especially with her grandchildren. Patricia F. Nickle. 85, of Rising Sun, MD passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015. She was 85. Born February 14, 1929 in Elwyn, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Ednell (Passmore) McLaughlin. Mrs. Nickle was a lady of strong faith and was well versed in her Bible studies. She was a member of Conowingo Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and was formerly a member of the First Baptist Church of North East. She retired from a 22-year career at Calvert Manor Nursing Home where she was a nurse’s aide. Mrs. Nickle enjoyed traveling with the Cecil Travelers and she was an avid reader and was a member of the Rising Sun Library book club. However, Patricia’s greatest joy was spending time with her loving family and friends. Mark Gary Hawkins of Rising Sun died January 7, 2015 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. He was 52. He was the son of Dora Moxley Plitt of Edgewood and the late Brice Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins worked as a truck driver for more than 20 years. He loved to be out on the water, especially to crab and fish. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Richard. He is survived by his beloved wife of five years, Valerie Edmundson Hawkins of Rising Sun, his daughter, Heather Hawkins of Edgewood, his stepdaughter Dawn Cooper and husband Danny, of Elkton, stepson, Lawrence Wiggins III of Rising Sun, and six grandchildren Adrian Giles of Edgewood, Jeffrey Miller of Edgewood, Madison, Marissa, Milana, and Maverick Cooper of Elkton, and his uncle, Franklyn Moxley. Janice G. Adams, 80, of Peach Bottom, PA, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015. She was the widow of Lloyd F. Adams who passed away in 1989. Janice enjoyed playing bingo, going to the beach, and her grandchildren. Janice was a member of Ashville Bible Church, Oxford, PA. Our dear Mom was a friend to all and a mother to many over the years. Her family was her pride and joy. Janice has left us sadly, but those that love her are left with a piece of her in our hearts. She will be sadly missed by all. Freda Jane Carpenter of Elkton died Monday, January 12, 2015 in the Ware Presbyterian Home, Oxford, Pa. She was 85. Born in Barnsley, Pa., on February 15, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence T. and the late Alice O. (Pierce) Stilwell. Mrs. Carpenter was a cook at local area restaurants for many years. After she retired, she still loved to cook and share what she made with her family and friends. She was a member of VFW Post 6027 - Ladies Aux.,North East, and the American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 - Ladies Aux. Rising Sun. |
