Loretta May Stigliano, died December 27, 2016, just a few weeks short of her 90th Birthday. Loretta was born in Perry Point, MD in 1927 to Anthony and Concetta La’Monica, and lived in that state for most of her life, primarily in a big house on the North East River, where she and her husband Nick raised eight children. She began her training as a nurse in 1943 and was expected to go overseas, but World War II ended just before she received her certificate. Soon after the war she met Nickolas Stigliano, a firefighter and war veteran, and they married in 1950. She began working nights when her first child, Yvonne, was born and remained on the night shift for the remainder of her career, over 50 years. Survivors include her seven children: Yvonne Cimo of Bridgeville , DE, Nickolas C. Stigliano II of Omaha, NE, Francis V. Stigliano of Fairfax, VA, Loretta Stigliano of Middletown, DE, Charles Stigliano of Malden, MA, Monica Stigliano-Stormo of Lone Pine, CA, and Michelle Stigliano of Elkton, MD; and her 8 grandchildren: Peter, Paul, Joshua, Zachary, Michael, Natalie, Angela and Raphael.
In addition to her parents, her husband: Nickolas C. Stigliano, Sr. and her two siblings: Vincent LaMonica and Josephine Ward, she was preceded in death by her youngest son: Joseph Carmen Stigliano who died on August 23, 1991. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main St., North East, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church, 928 Turkey Point Road, North East, MD. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Cherry Hill, MD. The family would like to thank the staff at Elkton Transitional Care for the excellent care given to their mother.
