Danny Allen Whisman, Jr., 37, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at home. Born in Lancaster, PA he was the son of Carla Janice Loggins Gehr of Rising Sun, MD and the late Danny A. Whisman, Sr. Danny was a veteran of the US Navy serving in the SEALs. Danny was a fan of the New Orleans Saints. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his mother; one daughter, McKenzey Rae Whisman of Colora, MD; three brothers, James Norris, Joseph Norris and Shawn Whisman (Tina) all of Rising Sun, MD; six nephews and five nieces. E. Anne Wood, 87, of North East, MD, passed away at U. H. on March 28, 2018. She was born on June 27, 1930, to the late Wayne and Margaret Dennis. Mrs. Wood was a second-grade teacher at North East and Bay View Elementary schools for many years. She was an active member of Hart’s U.M. Church in Elk Neck, a member of Friends of the Library and enjoyed volunteering at Calvert Manor. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Baltimore Orioles, enjoyed traveling, flower gardening and jigsaw puzzles. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Herbert Wood; and daughters: Beverly Wood and Aileen Yeatman. Ruth Frances Justice, age 88, of Peach Bottom, PA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 21, 2018. Born on September 8, 1929 in Swords Creek, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Clarence B. and Mamie Victoria (Newberry) Short.
Ruth was an active member of the Oxford Church of God for over 42 years and was also active in doing missionary work. She lived for the Lord and hoped that everyone she knew was saved. She loved the Lord so much that she wanted everyone to accept the Lord as their Savior. Ruth also loved reading and flower gardening, but most of all, she loved her family. Noah Quin Norona, age 22, of Elkton, MD passed away on March 19, 2018. Born in Newark, DE on August 18, 1995, he was the son of John Darrin and Julie Ann (Heberly) Norona. Noah was a 2013 graduate of Rising Sun High School. After graduating from RSHS, he attended Towson University. Noah was an avid soccer and tennis player. He was also an excellent drummer, playing for multiple churches in the area. Noah was an active member at Grace Bible Chapel in Rising Sun, MD, and was also affiliated with The Journey Church in Newark, DE and Hereford United Methodist Church in Monkton, MD. John Colgan Futty, Jr., 73 of North East, MD, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Elkton Transitional Care Center, Elkton, MD. A lifetime resident of North East, he was born on April 2, 1944, the son of the late John C. Sr. and Opal (Kidd) Futty. John retired from the Cecil County School Board. He started his teaching career at Perryville High School, transferred to Bohemia Manor High School where he taught for 22 years, then retiring from North East Middle School. During his career at the various schools, John coached his students in soccer, wrestling, baseball and basketball. John’s former students held him in high regard. No matter where he was, prior students would speak to him, showing their love and respect. He also retired the Army National Guard with 22 years of service and the rank of Warrant Officer. A life member of the North East Fire Company, he was also a member, past president and recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award of the North East Lions Club, a golden member of the Upper Bay Museum and a member of the 29th Division Association, Eder George Post 85. John enjoyed attending the conventions for the various organizations he belonged to. June Kathleen Shepherd (Kitty June),90, of Oxford, PA, passed immediately into the arms of her Savior, the Lord Jesus on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Jenners Pond, West Grove, PA surrounded by family and friends in the loving arms of her husband. She was the wife of William W. Shepherd with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Norristown, PA she was the daughter of the late James E. and Mary Hallowell Stoops. June was a Physical Education Teacher from 1950 – 1958 Oxford Area High School. She was a beloved Field Hockey coach and Girls Basketball coach. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Oxford where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served on the Fellowship Committee and was the chair of the Flower Committee. June was also a member of the Oxford Research Club where she managed the Second Season Shop. June enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, camping, reading, flower gardening, knitting and music. Ellen Knauss Bradley, 71 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at home. Born August 17, 1946 in Havre de Grace, MD, she was the daughter of the late Robert Davis Knauss, Sr., and Ruth Owens Knauss.
Ellen was employed by the former Bainbridge Naval Training Center from 1964 until the base closed. In 1967 Ellen was voted Mrs. Bainbridge. Following closure of the base Ellen transferred to the Aberdeen Proving Ground of Aberdeen, MD, where she worked in the legal office and CHAMPUS until retiring in June 2005. Ellen was one of the founders of “Recycled Teenage Cruisers” which she named and was the club secretary from its beginning in1985. She was a MASRA member and secretary for 10 years. She received the Lady Rodder of the year award in1996. Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, William B. Bradley, Jr., of Port Deposit, MD; son, Bryan K. Bradley of Warwick, MD; daughter, Kelly B. Vann and husband, Chuck, of Port Deposit, MD; grandchildren, Brittany V. Spies and husband, Bryan, and Justin (George) H. Vann and wife, Jennifer; two great grandchildren, Jaylin and Paisley; brother, Robert D. Knauss, Jr., of Sandy Lake, PA; sister, Shirley Scott of Spring Hill, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Mary Deering, 89 of Aberdeen, MD, formerly of North East, MD passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 in the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House, Forest Hill, MD. Born in Casa Blanca, French Morocco, on May 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Judah and Simy (Ruimi) Mouyal. She was the wife of the late Richard Edward Deering who passed in 2008. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Deering worked as a waitress. She is survived by three daughters: Patricia Ozga of Fleetwood, PA, Renee Cecil of Rainell, WV and Roxanne Harrison of Paradise, PA; two sons: Richard Charles Deering of Boca Raton, FL and Robert Deering of Denver, PA; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Esther Asamba of Israel and Annette Benaloun of France. Carolyn Sue Kupcinski, 60 of Philadelphia, PA, formerly of North East, MD, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA. Born in Elkton, MD, on June 7, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Verl and Zelma (Wilson) Head. Mrs. Kupcinski was an accountant for CBIZ Corp. She was a member of Charlestown Missionary Baptist Church, Charlestown, MD. She was an active volunteer in Manna and Philabundance, feeding the needy in Philadelphia. Milton Lewis Brown, 66 of Elkton, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on April 26, 1951, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Ethelwyn G. (Johnson) Brown. Milton enjoyed watching TV, playing cards and babysitting. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a chef at Sandy Cove Ministries, North East, MD. |
