G. Roger Charsha of Perryville died at home on Friday, June 27, 2014. He was 90. Mr. Charsha was born in Perry Point, a son of the late William Wrightson and Mildred A. Jackson Charsha. He was a 1942 graduate of Jacob Tome Institute, Port Deposit. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vermillion. Mr. Charsha worked as a crane operator at Aberdeen Proving Ground until he retired after more than 37 years' service. Following his retirement from APG in 1980, he worked for Neff Construction. Robert Keith Burke of Charlestown died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 63.
He was born in Upland, Pa., on February 5, 1951 and was a graduate of St. James High School, Chester, Pa. Mr. Burke was employed by Teledyne-Wirz as a mechanic. Lori A. McDowell of Oxford, Pa., died at home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. She was 46. Mrs. McDowell was born in Jennersville, Pa., a daughter of Kenneth and Joanne Ayers Skelton of Rising Sun. She was a 1985 graduate of Rising Sun High School, where she was a drummer in the jazz, concert, and marching bands. She played in the All-County Band for three years. Mrs. McDowell was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Oxford, where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed spots, the outdoors, and spending time with her family. John Victor "Jack" Gottemoller of North East died at home Monday, June 23, 2014. He was 84. Born in Chicago on April 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Victor H. and the late Irene (McMillan) Gottemoller. After graduating from Northwestern University in 1953 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, he served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps. Mr. Gottemoller then spent the next 30 years as a Chemical Engineer at Thiokol Chemical Corporation (ATK). He was most proud of his work for the NASA space program where he was involved in the manufacturing of the booster rockets. Jean Evalyn Hornberger of Port Deposit died at home June 23, 2014. She was 79.
Born August 1, 1934 in Port Deposit, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Elizabeth Krauss Burlin. William Stewart Rakes of Sharptown died Sunday, June 22, 2014 in Salisbury. He was 75.
He was formerly employed by Chrysler Corporation of Newark, Del., as a yardman. Mr. Rakes was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Jerry Skrivanek V.F.W. Post No. 8185 of Port Deposit. Patricia Marie Nichols of Elkton died Thursday, June 19, 2014 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. She was 60. A lifelong resident of Elkton, she was born on May 8, 1954 and was a graduate of Elkton High School. She worked for AstraZeneca for over 17 years. Mrs. Nichols loved traveling with her husband, especially to Hawaii. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Robert Nichols of Elkton; her father, John Elwood Schneider of Elkton; two brothers, Jeff Schneider of Paoli, Pa., Darryl Schneider and his wife Deborah of Port Deposit; her stepchildren: Melissa Nichols of Lewes, Del. and Robert Nichols of Elkton; a nephew, Matthew Schneider of Elkton; six grandchildren; and her beloved dogs, Nicky and Pearl. Julia Champagne of Elkton died June 8, 2014. She was 18. Miss Champagne enjoyed spending time with her sister, laughing, joking, and being silly. She also enjoyed video games, her Kindle tablet, phone, and hanging out with friends. She also enjoyed listening to music and drawing and was known for her creativity. Miss Champagne is survived by her mother, Lisa Kinkead (Champagne Letellier), father Stephen Kinkead of Elkton, sisters Holly Champagne, stepsister Season Lee (Kinkead) and her husband, Leighton, of Clarksville, Tenn., father Terry Champagne of North Cobalt, Ontario, uncle Norman Letellier and aunt Kim Letellier of London, Ontario, Tante Carmen Landry, cousins Eric and Chris of Barrie, Ontario, uncle, Michael Letellier of Edmonton, Alberta, and memere and pepere Patricia and Emile Letellier of Haileybury, Ontario. Marlene Helen Young, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 after a 20 month battle with cancer. She was 62. Born July 11, 1951 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Josephine M. Drozd Vanik. James Ronald “Ron” Blake of Newark, Del., died at home Tuesday, June 17, 2014. He was 61.
Born in York, Pa., on June 2, 1953, he was the son of the late James O. and the late Margaret E. (Snedagar) Blake. He was a truck driver for Chesapeake Publishing for 32 years. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a huge Jeff Gordon fan. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. |
