Dorothy "Dot" Bettina Harris Baird, of Perryville, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, in the Elkton Care and Rehab in Elkton. She was 95.
Mrs. Baird was born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 4, 1918, daughter of the late George Kennard Harris, Sr., and the late Bessie Cunningham Harris. She was the wife of the late William David Baird. Kenneth Curry, of North East, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. He was 19.

Wayne Donald Yurcovic of Port Deposit died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in the Union Hospital, Elkton,. He was 58. He was born in Allentown, Pa., on August 4, 1955. He was the son of Dorothy (Rohrbach) Yurcovic-Fry of Keystone Heights, Fla. and the late Daniel J. Yurcovic. He served his country in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam. Mr. Yurcovic was a yard foreman for 18 years for Maryland Portable, Elkton. He was a member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club, V.F.W. Post 6027 and was past President of the Delaware Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club. Carroll R. "Eel" Carr of Rising Sun died at home Saturday, September 14, 2013.
He was born to the late Nelson and Ethel E. Kauffman Carr on December 2, 1940. Mr. Carr was a lifelong waterman, builder, and contractor specializing in preservation and renovations of older homes. Judy Churchman Lowe died September 13, 2013. A 15-year breast cancer survivor, she was an avid crafter and crocheter. She lived and worked in Havre de Grace and Conowingo for 40 years. She regularly made blankets and donated them to battered women’s groups.
Howard Bancroft Tome of Rising Sun died at home on September 12, 2013. He was 89. He was born on September 23, 1923 in a large farmhouse on the southwest corner of the Dr. Jack and Rowland Roads, Port Deposit. During his childhood, the family lived on several farms in Cecil County, surviving the Great Depression of the 1930s.
E. Kirk Brown III died Thursday, September 5, 2013 in John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He was 74 He was born June 16, 1939 in Baltimore, son of the late E. Kirk Brown, Jr. and Margaret Reed Brown. Mr. Brown was the proprietor of Wyoming Tavern for over 50 years, taking over business responsibilities after his father's death. He greatly enjoyed the daily interaction with his customers, employees, and the entire town of Wyoming from the Police Station, Town Hall, the Bank of Wyoming, and other town businesses--always greeting people with a smile and a cheerful comment. He spent many happy evenings playing on shuffleboard and pool teams over the years. Cora Louise Griffin of Port Deposit died at home Wednesday, September 4, 2013. She was 75.
Born July 9, 1938 in Elkton, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Pearl M. Henry Honesty. Barbara Ann Shivery of North East died Monday, September 9, 2013 in the Lorien Nursing Home, Riverside. She was 76. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, she was born in Elkton on September 9, 1937, the daughter of the late Ellis Charles and the late Ruth A.M. (Veasey) Simmons. Mrs. Shivery worked as a seamstress for Nanette’s and Lass Associates. She had also worked in the cafeteria at North East High School. |
