Horace Edward "Finney" Finnefrock died at home, January 19, 2016. A lifetime resident of Connelly Road, he was the son of the late Horace S. and Ella (Alexander) Finnefrock. Mr. Finnefrock served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Army Signal Corps. Always the racer, he discovered stock car racing in the 50s. During the 60s, Mr. Finnefrock was a pioneer on the Nitro Go-Cart circuit, as well as a proud member of the NHRA Jr Stock Division, racing mostly at Cecil County Dragway. In the 70s and 80s, he and son Rick, built the 1965 Mustang “High Horse”. For over two decades the duo and their “Stang” were a well-known regional car that held multiple track records in several classes. In the 80s the Mustang was put on the ISCA Circuit and was a South East Atlantic champion. The car is still out there as a survivor. Mr. Finnefrock's passion of racing lives on in grandchildren Caleb and Raven, racing the motorcross circuit in Pa. for over 10 years.
He was a member of the NHRA, UBRA, Rising Sun American Legion and was an honorary member of Boy Scout Troop 102. Mr. Finnefrock retired from Motor Wheel Corp, Newark, Del. In later years, he spent his weekends at yard sales with his wife, Joan, making memories and treasured friends. Mr. Finnefrock had a quiet way of helping people. Often mistaken for Santa, he played the role all year long; but especially at Christmas from his yard displays to gifts for all. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan Love, daughter Joni Ewing and Dennis Fenninger, Rising Sun; Richard (RC) and Catherine Finnefrock of Orwingsburg, Pa.; Dina and William Renshaw, Millersville, Pa.; Cathy and Kenneth Reinhardt, Rising Sun; six grandchildren, E4 Caleb Finnefrock (Lauren), Fort Bliss, Texas; Raven Finnefrock (Damian Faust), Orwingsburg, Pa.; Rebecca and Julia Renshaw, Millersville, Pa., Tyler Reinhardt, Dover, Del., and Caitlyn Reinhardt, Rising Sun; a great-granddaughter, Dahlia L. Finnefrock; and a sister Shirley Powers (Bill), Rising Sun. He was preceded in death byhis brother, Harry Finnefrock, and son-in-law, Leon Ewing. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30, at 2 p.m. at Conowingo Baptist Church.
