Gerald Lee Shivery of Rising Sun died at home January 27, 2016. He was 79. Born in Chester County, Pa. on July 22, 1936, he was the son of the late George Shivery and Edith (Shivery) Hilaman. Mr. Shivery was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired from Logistics & Transportation Services, Inc. LTSI (subsidiary of Northrop Grumman) in Baltimore, as a purchasing manager. He also spent portions of his career in the hardware, lumber and consumer finance industries. Mr. Shivery's hobbies included hunting and fishing by spending time on the Chesapeake Bay and in Western Maryland. He was passionate about building platforms and collecting model trains. He enjoyed gardening, in particular growing plants from seed and was an avid fan of sports, from the Little Leagues to the Baltimore Colts, Ravens and Orioles. In particular, he thought baseball was the greatest game of all, and it was his favorite pastime.
He is survived by three sons, Brian M. and Toni Shivery of Rising Sun, Daniel K. and Vicki Shivery of Rising Sun, and Kevin W. and Stephanie Shivery of North East; daughter Brenda M. and Mike Cudmore of Bel Air; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Burgasser, Ashley, and Brittany Cudmore, Connor, Shannon, Brendan, Kaitlyn, Lauren and Braeden Shivery; and a sister, Patricia Hoover of Christiana, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife Janice who died in January of 2015. Services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ray of Hope Mission and mailed to R.T.
