Eleanor Hammond Lynch of North East died at home Saturday, August 10, 2013. She was 90. Born in Marathon, N.Y., on May 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Willis D. and the late Ina M. Hammond. Mrs. Lynch graduated from Marathon High School as valedictorian and then worked for IBM in Syracuse, NY. In 1944, she married Donald Lynch, a graduate of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.They moved to Walkersville in 1947 where they began their veterinary practice.
In 1950, they established Glade Valley Animal Hospital near Frederick. She assisted her husband in many aspects of the practice until their retirement in 1986. They moved to North East in 1996. Mrs. Lynch loved music and served as church choir director and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with family. In recent years, Mrs. Lynch volunteered at Sandy Cove in North East. She is survived by her children: Peter Hammond Lynch of North East, Melissa J. Christensen of Baltimore, William Patrick Lynch of Frederick, Teri Jane Myers of Colorado Springs, Col., and Bethany Anne Green of North East; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Dr. Donald R. Lynch who died Nov. 30, 2000. Services will be held Friday, August 16, 2013 from Crouch Funeral Home, P.A.,127 South Main Street, North East.
