James Paul White, 76, of Chesapeake City, died on Sunday, December 11, 2016.
Born in Chesapeake City on December 9, 1939, he was the son of the late Paul White, and the late Madalyn Allen Price White Benson and Lee Benson. Mr. White was a veteran of the Delaware Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve 109th Ordnance Battalion. He had worked for Interstate United Company, Chicago, IL, General Motors Corporation, Wilmington, DE, and General Foods, Dover, DE. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation, Newark, as food service manager. He was a Master Mason of Cecil Lodge #125 and Union Lodge #48 AF&AM Masonic Lodge, Elkton. Other memberships included Scottish Rite Delaware Consistory Kent/ Essex, and a life member of Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Company. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, boating and fishing, listening to bluegrass and classic country music, watching the Orioles and Ravens, and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Carol Joanne Schofield White; children, James P. White, II and wife Pamela, Chesapeake City, Lori A. Combs and husband, Scott, Kennersville, NC; and grandsons, Logan Combs and Chase White. Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Friday, December 16, at the Hicks Home for Funerals. Beverley Aileen Brown Pitt, of Rising Sun, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, December 10, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92. Born on November 19, 1924 in West Palm Beach FL, she was the daughter of Forrest Ellsworth Brown and Ella Josephine (Jacobs) Brown. When she was two years old her family moved to Colon, Panama. Fifteen years later they returned to Florida and after her graduation from high school they moved to Havre de Grace, MD. She started her career as a secretary at Aberdeen Proving Ground. After taking time off to raise her daughters she returned to APG until retirement. Beverley was an avid reader and a wonderful oil paint artist. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family and friends. David “Boom Baby Wayne” Hodgson, 50 of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in Elkton on August 28, 1966. David worked as a concrete finisher and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping and listening to good country music. Marie Christeen Kiebler, 71 of Elkton, MD, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at home. Born in Honaker, VA, on February 21, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Walter Barton and the late Naomi (Barton) Hoke. Christeen retired from Chesapeake Care Resources, North East, MD where she worked as a Direct Support Professional. She enjoyed reading, working puzzle books and was quite a doll collector. Alice Elizabeth Bullock Spindler, 83 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. Born February 19, 1933 in Lick Creek, KY, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Dennis and Zettie Fields Williams. Mrs. Spindler was a member of Christ the King Church of Havre de Grace, MD, and the owner/operator of a former assisted living facility in Havre de Grace, MD. Norman L. Tyrie, 84 of North East, MD, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Born in Lafayette, IN, on January 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Floyd and Gladys (Heins) Tyrie. Mr. Tyrie served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1987 after service as First Vice President for Union Locals in Philadelphia, NJ and PA. He enjoyed boating and fishing. Donald L Shires, 78 years, of Conowingo, MD, died Thursday, December 8, 2016 in UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. Born February 17, 1938, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Holly Wellington and Frances Lydia Reynolds Shires.
Mr. Shires was affiliated with Oak Grove Baptist Church of Bel Air, M D and was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 53 of Port Deposit, MD. He was a veteran of the U.S, Army and was a State Supervisor of Assessments with Cecil County, MD as well as the proprietor of Reedy’s Barber Shop in Perryville, MD. Mary Ellen Hardesty, 82 of North East, MD, went to heaven to be with her mother, husband, daughter and granddaughter on Friday, December 9, 2016 in the Elkton Transitional Care Center.
Born in Dallas, NC, on October 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Michael Theodore and Lillian (Alexander) Costner. She was a Seamstress, employed by Lass and Associates in North East, MD. Peggy Ann Bolender, 80, of Elkton, MD passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016. Born in Washington, DC on October 4, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John Mullican and Ruth Swanay Mullican Morarre. Mrs. Bolender was a teacher with the Cecil County Board of Education, retiring after 37 years of teaching at Perryville High School. She had been a member of the National Educators Association, Cecil County Teachers Association and Maryland State Teachers Association and was a member of the Cecil County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading, spending time at the beach, shopping, time with family and friends and antiquing as well as visits to Williamsburg, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bolender was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson K. Bolender. Gene Patrick "Pat" Ward, 85, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. He was born on June 3, 1931, in Elkton, MD, to the late Joseph Vincent Ward and Charlotte Matilda (Hostetter) Ward. Pat graduated from the Jacob Tome Institute in 1949 and the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953, retiring on May 1, 1964, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He returned to Cecil County and worked for the CECIL WHIG as a reporter and later as the editor. In 1969, he attended the University Of Maryland School Of Law and was admitted to the Bar in 1972. Pat practiced law for over thirty years. He enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. He also loved to watch horse racing and Navy football, especially the Army-Navy game. |
