The Solanco cross country teams participated in their first league meet of the season September 8. "Coming off of some personal records [the previous Saturday] at the Lebanon Valley Invitational for most of our runners and running in the extreme heat it was difficult to match the same type of effort Tuesday, [September 8]," coach Craig Ausel said. The girls won two of three meets at Manor Middle School, defeating Penn Manor (24-31) and Cedar Crest (21-35) and falling to Lancaster Catholic by a point (27-28).
The ladies did respond well winning two and losing a very close one to Lancaster Catholic," said Ausel. "Cortney Johnson, Morgan Perry, Essi Glah-Fisher, Aubree Roop, and Hannah Wheeler went 1-5 for the Lady Mules but had equal number of Lancaster Catholic gals in between each of their finishes to lose by one point." Johnson finished third overall in a time of 21:24 followed by Perry (fifth), Glah-Fisher (sixth), Roop (10th), and Wheeler (19th). In the boys competition, the Mules lost to Penn Manor (16-51), Cedar Crest (18-49), and Lancaster Catholic (24-31). "The boys struggled to remain with their pack groups," Ausel said. "Liam Hodgson got out strong but struggled to maintain in the heat, finishing first for the Mules. Our next pack of boys – Keith Carnrike, Connor Neaves, Patrick Workman, and Ben Stickler had solid performances but were unable to hold on to Penn Manor's and Cedar Crest's strong pack." Hodgson finished seventh overall in 18:15, followed by Carnrike (24th), Neaves (25th), Workman (28th), and Stickler (30th). "We are OK with this early season struggle," Ausel said. "It is early, and we will reap the benefits of training through some of these meets late in the season. We will regroup and be prepared for [the next meet]." LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT Both Solanco teams performed well in the first meet of the year. The Solanco girls finished fourth out of 14 teams. Johnson placed fourth with Perry 10th. "Cortney and Morgan ran very smart races, getting out fast but conservatively and working their way into medal position. Glah-Fisher was 15th. Running her first varsity race, the freshman Roop recorded a 27th place finish. Her classmate Wheeler was 53rd followed by Christen Esposito (59th) and Casey Weder (64th). The Mules' boys team placed sixth out of 16 teams. Hodgson paced Solanco to finish fourth in a field of 231 runners. Carnrike was 31st. Neaves, Christian Stead, and Workman each finished in the Top 50. Comments are closed.
