Solanco cross country coach Craig Ausel was pleased with his team's performance at the District 3 Championships Saturday. Cortney Johnson and Liam Hodgson both medaled and qualified for this week's PIAA State Championships. "We had a very good day," Ausel said. Johnson placed 18th in a field of 229 runners with a personal best time of 19:29. "Cortney has peaked at just the right time," said Ausel. "Today was the best race of her career so far." Johnson was the seventh Lancaster-Lebanon League runner across the line. The L-L league had 18 runners in the top 50.
The Mules' Morgan Perry also ran a personal record of 20:04 and finished 43rd. "Morgan battled and ran very strong," said Ausel. "She is a fierce competitor and left it on the course today. Senior, Essi Glah-Fisher finished out her stellar career with a 93rd place finish in 20:54. "Essi has accomplished some great things in our program and has been a giant part of our success over the past four years," Ausel said. Freshman Aubree Roop finished out a very impressive first season with a time of 21:49. "Aubree has a bright future ahead of her," said Ausel. Rounding out the scoring for the 13th place Solanco girls was senior Christen Esposito at 23:56. "Christen battled," Ausel said. "We are very proud of her work to crack the top five this season. Freshmen Hannah Wheeler and Casey Weder were Solanco's sixth and seventh runners respectively. In the boys race, Hodgson ran another smart race to capture the last medal spot, finishing 20th out of 273 runners. His time of 16:32 was the best of his four-year career. Hodgson averaged 5:20 per mile over the rolling 3.1 mile course. Senior Keith Carnrike finished as the Mules second man, running 18:07 and finishing in 165th position. Freshman, Ben Stickler continued to add to his breakout freshman season with a 170th place finish in 18:20. Sophomores Patrick Workman and Christian Stead ran 18:42 and 18:54 respectively. Rounding out the Mules' squad were Alec Munro 19:03 and Connor Neaves 20:07. "The Solanco cross country boys battled all year long and show great promise for the future," said Ausel.
