Solanco's JV softball team recorded two victories last week to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Mules mauled Wilson 17-1 in five innings Friday.
Sierra Dean struck out eight in five innings of work to earn the win. "Sierra had to overcome some adverse weather conditions early in the game," coach Chad McDowell said. "I thought she settled in nicely after getting through the first two innings when it was raining and winds were gusting." Skyla Townsley was 3 for 4 with three singles and three RBIs. Lindsey Lane had two hits including a double and three RBIs. Gabby Sheets also had two hits including a double and drove in two. Dean was 2 for 4 with a double. Tori Lawson and Kaitlyn Dobinson each added a hit and two RBIs. Maddison Pluck had a single and an RBI. Georgia Ewing singled. Last Wednesday, Solanco edged Red Lion 11-9. "This was a good early season game for my young team," McDowell said. "Red Lion is a good program that puts a quality team on the field year in and year out. I thought our girls stepped up and performed well. They executed and made the plays when they needed to. It was a complete team win, with each and every girl contributing." Townsley was 2 for 2 with a double, RBI, and three stolen bases. Kayla May was 2 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs. Dean had two hits including a double and an RBI. Aleksa Burger doubled and drove in two. Lane provided a double, RBI, and two stolen bases. Pluck singled and stole a base. May struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings to record the win. "Kayla had great control and moved the ball around the strike zone and really kept the Red Lion hitters off balance," said McDowell. "Kayla threw very well." Dean came on in relief to pick up a save. "Sierra had a different movement on her pitches and that really confused the Red Lion hitters in the final inning." The Mules begin league play this week. "This is the first time in a long time that we were able to play all three non-league games," McDowell said. "With having a young team that needed experience on the field, it was good to get all three in." Comments are closed.
