It was a big week for Graci Unger and the Solanco girls soccer team. Unger scored seven goals as the Mules won four games to improve to 10-4 on the season. Solanco has won 10 games for the first time in program history and is in position to earn its first-ever playoff berths.
Solanco 6, Oxford 0 Kaylin Fowler and Grace Unger each scored two goals as the Mules romped over the visiting Hornets Saturday morning, September 28. Sammi Jackson collected a goal and three assists and Kayden Bedwell added a goal. Solanco 3, Octorara 0 Familiarity breeds comfort for Solanco sophomore striker Graci Unger. Unger has played the two best games of her burgeoning career against an Octorara squad which includes several of her club ball teammates. Unger scored four goals in a game against the Braves last year. Friday afternoon, September 27, Unger recorded a hat trick to lead the host Mules to a 3-0 triumph. "I feel like I'm more comfortable playing against them because I play on a club team with them," Unger said. "I'm more comfortable just playing." Unger missed the early part of the season while battling injuries and is still not 100 percent although that was not evident to Octorara. "I sprained my ankle right before school started," she said. "I was working with that and my knee is messed up a little bit so I'm dealing with that, too." Unger opened the scoring with 28:46 left in the first half. Maya Dolan sent a long ball into the box which was mishandled by the Braves' goalkeeper. Unger was there to pounce on the rebound and blast a left-footed shot into the net. Solanco dominated the final 40 minutes. Unger knocked in a corner kick taken by Nikki Trout with 8:16 remaining Less than three minutes later, Unger poked a loose ball past the keeper to complete the hat trick. The Mules' all-league midfielder Alana Yoder played just a couple minutes because of an injury, but her teammates rallied to fill the void. "When you lose kind of the focal point of the team in Alana with her ankle, these other girls stepped up," Solanco coach Ken Yoder said. "It changes the dynamic a little bit but I felt after the first half, we settled in. It started getting chippy again. That seems to be the case this year. But I thought everybody stepped up. Everybody contributed. It was a good team win.Obviously, Graci with the three goals, but I thought everybody was playing hard and it was a good win for us. We took care of business when we needed to." Solanco 3, McCaskey 0 Unger tallied twice in the victory over the visiting Tornado Wednesday, September 25. Kaylin Fowler added a goal and Alyssa Harpe and Hannah Wood each recorded an assist. Solanco 1, Donegal 0 The Mules nipped host Donegal Tuesday, September 24. Sammi Jackson scored two minutes into the second half off an assist from Nikki Trout. Goalie Madi Dolan made nine saves. Comments are closed.
