The Solanco girls basketball team lost twice last week. McCaskey downed the Mules 51-31 Friday night. The visitors started strong, outscoring Solanco 19-4 in the first quarter. "We dug ourselves a hole," Solanco coach Chad McDowell said. "They were scoring in transition and we made several turnovers. They hit a couple of threes because we didn't rotate to their shooters." The Mules battled back and got within eight by the end of the third quarter but were outscored 12-3 over the final eight minutes. "We didn't really make adjustments but the girls picked up their intensity," said McDowell. "We focused on rebounding and were able to limit their opportunities. We worked so hard to get back within striking distance we were sort of burned out at the end." Nikki Boultinghouse paced Solanco with eight points and added five rebounds. Rachel Trout collected seven points, eight rebounds and four assists. Taylor Stitz provided six points, seven rebounds and three steals. Megan Yannutz contributed six points and eight boards. Cayla Robinson recorded two points and three rebounds and Haley Conklin supplied two points and two steals. Manheim Township topped the Mules 40-31 last Wednesday. Solanco led 6-4 at the end of the first quarter before the Streaks took command by outscoring the Mules 14-6 in the second half. "They got a couple buckets inside and some second chance points," McDowell said. Solanco got within four late in the third quarter but Township hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to go up 29-22. "That swung the momentum in their favor heading into the fourth quarter," said McDowell. Manheim Township has dominated the league in recent years before taking a step backward this season. "We went up there knowing we could compete with them and we did," said McDowell. "We just made a couple costly mistakes and that was the difference." Conklin led the Mules with nine points, five assists and three steals. Yannutz had nine points, five rebounds and two assists. Trout added eight points, five steals and four rebounds. Boultinghouse registered three points and four boards. Jen Eberly notched two points and three rebounds, and Stitz had six rebounds and three assists. The Mules have four games scheduled this week. After taking on Penn Manor Monday, Solanco hosts Elizabethtown Tuesday and travels to Conestoga Valley Thursday and to York Country Day Saturday. Comments are closed.
