Solanco's 10U Black squad captured the Lanco Youth Softball Gold championship in dramatic fashion with an extra-inning triumph over Hempfield Thursday, June 16, at Elizabethtown. Solanco pitcher Ari Martin wriggled out of a jam in the top of the seventh before driving in the game-winning run in the bottom half. Extra innings begin with a runner on second. Martin stymied Hempfield by getting a groundout and two strikeouts.
Arihanna Wood began the bottom of the seventh on second base. After a strikeout, Martin singled to plate Wood with the winning run. Martin yielded four hits and fanned 12. After a scoreless first and second innings, Hempfield jumped out in front 1-0, as a batter reached on an error and scored on a single to right field. Solanco got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, when their bats came alive, scoring five runs. Singles by Cara Douts, Evelyn Butler, Ari Martin, Finley Polaski, Barbie Arredondo, and Tinley Frieze provided the offense. The inning ended by run rule. Hempfield came storming back in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on two singles and one error to get within one, at 5-4. After a scoreless bottom of the fifth for Solanco, Hempfield tied it at the top of the sixth on a two out triple and a throwing error. Solanco went down quietly in the bottom of the sixth. Solanco 6, Donegal 2 Solanco scored three runs in the bottom of the first and it wound up being enough for pitcher Ari Martin in a semifinal game Tuesday, June 14. Evelyn Butler singled with one out in the first, stole second, and scored on a Martin single. After an error, Barbie Arredondo plated a run with a groundout and Tinley Frieze followed with an RBI single. Solanco added a run in the second Kendall Boos led off with a single and eventually scored when Arihanna Wood reached on an error. In the third, Martin had an infield hit on a popup and scored on a single off the bat of Finley Polaski. Donegal got on the board in the top of the fifth, but Martin responded by drilling a shot down the right field line for a home run. Solanco's 14U Black team lost 7-3 to Hempfield in the championship game. Solanco led 3-0 in the third inning on Thursday night before the game was halted by rain. Solanco 6, Lampeter-Strasburg 1 Solanco won its semifinal game on the road Tuesday, June 14. After a scoreless first, Solanco scored one run in the top of the second on a base hit by Chloe Campos and an RBI ground out by Macey Miller. Solanco tacked on another run in the top of the third when Delaney Gote walked and scored on an RBI single by Ella Sensenig. In the top of the fifth, Ava Martin walked, stole second, and then scored on Delaney Gote’s double. L-S threatened with two singles in the bottom of the fifth, but pitcher Ava Martin was able to get out of the inning with three popups. Solanco broke the game open in the top of the sixth with three more runs on singles by Campos, Miller, Aubrie Orr, and a triple by Ava Fedoruk. L-S got their lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a double, runner advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on another groundout. Martin finished with a perfect 1-2-3 seventh. Campos and Fedoruk led Solanco with two hits apiece. Martin pitched the complete game, allowing four hits, one run, and no walks, striking out five. Solanco 18, Warwick 3 Solanco scored six runs in the bottom of the first and breezed to the victory. After winning pitcher Ava Martin retired the visitors in order, Solanco seized command. Ava Fedoruk led off with a single through the hole and stole second. Julia Phipps struck out but the catcher dropped the third strike. Phipps took off for first and the first baseman dropped the throw from the catcher allowing Phipps to reach and Fedoruk to score. Martin followed with a single to left but Phipps was thrown out at third. Bella Carey had a popup single to put runners on the corners. Delaney Gote walked to load the bases and Ella Sensenig, Chloe Campos, and Madison Harnish each walked to force in a run. The fifth run scored on a wild pitch and Aubrie Orr knocked in a run with a popup single. Fedoruk also ignited a second inning uprising. She tripled to right center and scored on a Martin sacrifice fly. Carey drove in a run on a groundout and Harnish drew an RBI walk to make it 9-0. Campos delivered a two-run single to highlight a four-run third inning. Warwick scored three runs in the top of the fourth to make it 13-3. Orr had an RBI groundout in the fourth and Solanco ended the game in the sixth. Fedoruk and Martin walked sandwiched around a bunt hit by Phipps. Carey walked to force in a run. Gote produced a two-run single and Campos contributed an RBI single to close it out. In other playoff games involving Solanco squads, Solanco 12U Gold lost 10-2 to Manheim Central in the opening round. Solanco 10U Gold fell to Warwick 13-12 in a first round game. Comments are closed.
