by Bud Hart Solanco’s boys basketball team defeated Lancaster County Christian School 53-40, in a non-league game played on the Lancaster Bible College court on Thursday, January 25. The Mules were stingy in the second and third quarters limiting LCCS to single digits. At the break it was Solanco 27-14. Entering the final eight minutes Solanco was up 40-22. Jack Boomsma took game high scoring honors with 19 points. He was the only Mule to reach double digits. Jon Rush connected for seven, Joey Gote five, Jay Boyle four, Aaron Constein three, Dawson Kreider three, Zack Wiker two, Jalen Henry two and Braden Redcay one. Solanco stepped to the charity stripe on 16 occasions and connected on 11, a 69-percent completion ratio.
In a close one on Friday, January 26, the visiting Elizabethtown Bears took a 59-51 win home. Seven Mules scored with Rush leading the way with 14, including four three pointers. Kreider also reached double numbers with 11. Gote added eight, Constein six (all from the foul line), Boomsma four, Boyle four, Baker two and Redcay two. Coach Scott Long started seniors Constein, Boomsma and Rush, along with juniors Kreider and Gote. The Bears lit up the numbers first. The Mules Kreider evened the score on Solanco’s next possession. The Mules took the lead in the first quarter when Gote banked two consecutive possession shots off the glass, the latter a put-back. After the first eight minutes it was Bears 22 - Mules 18. Key buckets by Boyle, Constein (foul shots), Carson Kilgore, Baker, Gote and Rush knotted the score at 31 all at the half. Solanco defense held E-town to nine points in the second quarter. The Bears broke the tie early in the third quarter, but owned only a two-point advantage (43-41) going into the final quarter thanks to a buzzer beating Rush three-point shot. The Mules were limited to only 10 points in the final quarter and were forced to foul in the closing minutes. Meeting the challenge, E-town went perfect (eight for eight) at the line in the closing seconds to gain their eighth overall win. The Mules suffered their 13th loss of the season.
