Cocalico swept the throwing events but Solanco still managed to turn in a good performance. Gary Doubts (42-6 1/2) was second in the shot put and Kyle Williams (140-3) placed second in the discus.
"The throwers, although outscored by a good throwing team, were able to earn several personal best and steadily improve their distances," said Haines. Displaying their depth, the Mules had second place finishes 12 of the 15 individual events. "What was nice to see was the number of seconds earned in the meet," Haines said. "We are gaining the experience needed for the tough meets coming up in our season." Cocalico won the girls team competition 91-59. "It was a tough night for the girls’ team," Haines said. "They went up against a team that was just a tad better than we were. The girls competed hard producing many personal bests. Given more time and experience the outcome of the meet may have been in our favor." Sophomore Jen Eberly earned a first in both hurdles (16.7 high hurdles, 48.2 in the 300 hurdles) and long jump (15-10 1/2) and also posted a personal best in all three. Haines said senior Brooke McCardell was able to get her form back and earned a first in the pole vault, jumping her best of the year of 10-7. Emily Conklin notched a first in the javelin, throwing her best of the year of 118-4. The 4 x 800 relay team (Essi Glah-Fisher, Cortney Johnson, Abby Yoder, and Carly Allport) also earned a first. "Even though score was not in our favor this team performed well and had a successful night," Haines said. Comments are closed.
