Willard R. Ward of Elkton died at home November 27, 2013. He was 88. Born in North East on April 16, 1925, he was the son of the late Bertram C. and the late Helen L. (Rothwell) Ward. He served his country during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the U. S. Army, 315th Infantry Co. D., in Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. He received the Good Conduct Medal and several ribbons. Mr. Ward retired from the Chrysler Corp., parts department, in Newark, Del., after 42 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses until he discovered golf. Once he was introduced to this sport it was hard to keep him off the golf courses. He is survived by two daughters, Helen Ward and her husband Joe Kachmar of Elkton, Mary Otto and her husband Rodney of Elkton; two grandchildren, Kelly and Rodney Otto of New Castle, Del. He was the husband of the late Clara Mae Ward who died December 30, 2010. He was also receded in death by his parents and his 12 siblings. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 4, at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with a viewing for family and friends beginning at 10 a.m. and services commencing at 11 a.m.. Pastor Jim McBride of First Baptist Church of Elkton will officiate. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow at the North East Methodist Cemetery.
