Ulysses Grant McCoy of Port Deposit died at home Sunday, April 5, 2015. He was 91. Born February 19, 1924 in Neva, Tenn., he was the son of the late Franklin Columbus and Margaret Eveline Tester McCoy. Mr. McCoy served his county as a U.S. Navy diver from 1945 until 1947. He was assigned to the USS Ajax, witnessed the Bikini Atoll Atomic Bomb Testing project in Hawaii and retained photos of the event. He received the World War II Victory Medal in 1947. In addition, Mr. McCoy served from 1938 until 1941 with the Civilian Conservation Corps Company No. 1447 from Jefferson City, Tenn.
He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Rising Sun, the Farm Bureau, the NRA and the Susquehanna Swingers. He very much enjoyed farming for Bunt Jack from 1942 until 1944 and it was here that he met his love. Mr. McCoy is survived by his son, Alan Wayne McCoy of Port Deposit; daughter, Donna Sue McCoy Crowl of Port Deposit; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susanne G. Cross McCoy; brothers, Stacy McCoy, William McCoy, Jesse McCoy; sisters, Carrie Mae Hammons, Ollie Dunn, Carrie Lee Farmer and Eleanor Messner. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2015, 11 a.m., at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015, 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Vernon Schmid of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Rising Sun, will officiate.
