Richard N. Shumway of North East died Friday, January 3, 2014 at Northwest Hospital, Baltimore. He was 94. He was born on May 3, 1919, the son of the late John G. and Letha (Nye) Shumway. Mr. Sumway served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he met and married his lifelong partner, W. Ann (Russell) Shumway on Feb. 12, 1946. He was a lifelong carpenter and member of Local Union #626 out of Wilmington, Del.
After retirement, he enjoyed outdoor activities and spending time with family. Mr. Shumway was a member and very active in the local Masonic and Shriner’s Chapter; and a member of the Perryville American Legion, Susquehanna Post 135. He is survived by his wife, W. Ann Shumway; brother, John Shumway; sister,: Jean Wilson; son, R. Douglas Shumway; daughter, Susan M. Shumway; five grandchildren, Jason, Josh, Michael, Shawn and Aimee; and four great grandchildren: Megan, Macy, Trystan and Chloe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Roy and Robert Shumway; and sisters, Margaret and Bernice. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time.
